Fun Recessional Music

Tiffany, on April 30, 2010 at 2:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Hey everyone. FH and I are trying to think of a really fun song for the recessional music. If I can't come up with anything else we will probably use "Forever" by Chris Brown. Any ideas?? What are you guys doing?

That is the only piece of music that I cannot figure out!! My cousin and her husband will be playin gguitar and violin for hte ceremony, her husband is a great singer, so I've been trying to think of songs that aren't 'girly' for him to sing. What about Another one bites the dust? Or a theme song from one for your favorite shows?

@D&N I have a thing against Chris Brown for the same reason, but couldn't come up with anything else.

Thank you for your suggestions though. What about "I feel good" by James Brown? Do you guys think that would be good?

I really want the Star Wars theme song as my recessional, but chances are I'm not going to get it. We are doing a church ceremony and FH's uncle will be our officiant. He says the ceremony is not about us, it's about God. Which is understandable, but I'm still sad about it. It's the only thing I know I absolutely wanted. Now I need to come up with a good song that I can use.

"Let My Love Open The Door" by Pete Townshend ... There are two versions, the original and a remake he did in the 80s that has a bit more electronic keyboard sound. Both are very good for recessionals it's just a personal preference as to what version you might like more.

I had a couple who wanted to play "Highway to Hell" as a funny recessional song. They changed their minds at the last minute, but I appreciated the irony. Smiley smile

Rosanna - you should find somewhere else to play the Star Wars theme, maybe at your Grand Entrance? My hubby is a huge SW fan and I understand how compelling that music is! I say skip the church for the sake of manners, but get it in there somewhere else. It is YOUR wedding!

All You Need is Love has been a very popular recessional lately. Other Beatles selections that we have played as recessionals; Here Comes the Sun, I Feel Fine, When I'm 64. We have also been requested to play; At Last, I Only Have Eyes for You, It Had to Be You, The Way You Look Tonight, The Muppet Show Theme Song, My Girl, Pirates of the Caribbean, Stairway to Heaven, Sunshine of Your Love, We've Only Just Begun, In the Mood.

We're leaving to Livin' our Love Song by Jason Micheal Carrol. It's a loud country song and it's one of our songs we love but it's not appropriate to walk down the aisle to.

The recessional should be a song of 'celebration'. At that point the ceremony is over, and you can go wild with song choice in 'most' cases.

We've done a lot of things over the years... From the traditional 'wedding march' from a Midsummer Night's Dream to 'Walking on Sunshine' by Katrina and the Waves, to Chris Brown's 'Forever' and lots of others. I normally recommend a 'feel good' song that 'connects' with the two of you. I would avoid certain songs that deal with 'break up' (like 'I Will Survive' - a GREAT song about an empowered woman after a breakup but inappropriate for a wedding in most cases).

Bob Marley has several that are great, upbeat and about love. We used "Is This Love" at our wedding in 05.
