Funkins or Fake Pumpkins for Centerpieces

Katherine, on May 14, 2013 at 8:32 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Does anyone know where I can get inexpensive funkins or fake pumpkins for carving?

I'm getting married in October of this year and want to do white pumpkins for part of the centerpieces.

Has anyone used pumpkins for centerpieces before? What are thoughts on using real vs fake? Will real be cheaper?

Also, if I opt for real, does anyone have any suggestions for preserving them for a week or so? I obviously won't be able to carve them all the day before the wedding...so I'm wondering how to keep them from going bad, getting smelly and moldy before they need to be set up.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not an expert in this area at all, lol, but I've heard that if you take a solution of bleach and water and spray them (daily?) that it will keep them from rotting as quickly. I guess it kills the germa ect that speed the process up. I have also seen (at Walmart around Halloween) a powder that you mix with water and put in a 5 gal bucket and dip the pumpkins in. It said you could do as many pumpkins as you'd like in the same water too. I'm not sure the name of that second product but maybe google it?

That would be neat! I don't know depends on the price of the fake ones, you could probably buy the real ones for under $5 and spray paint. I think the would be cute without carving maybe add a ribbion. Or carvings of your wedding date and other little things. You have time to buy a packet of seed and planting them, even if they dont grow that big you would use them on the food tables.

I recommend fake pumpkins. Originally we were going to use them for our centerpieces, but decided to go in another autumnal direction.

AC Moore and Michaels usually carries them, but they are more of a seasonal item so they may be hard to find this time of year. However you should be able to get them in September. When on sale the fake pumpkins are usually cheaper than real, but this varies depending on where you live. I'm in center NJ, for the size pumpkin we would have needed usually averages $15.00, same as the fake pumpkins, however I was able to find fake 40%-50% off.

There were several brides who I remember used pumpkins for centerpieces.

One discussion: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/centerpieces-for-fall-wedding/aacc75a1633e8b49.html but I'm sure there were more

If you google search pumpkin weddings, white pumpkin weddings, etc. you'll get lots of really neat ideas

Funkins ... love it Smiley smile

We are doing real pumpkins as our center pieces for my Oct 12 wedding. I much rather use real because I think it will look nicer.... its going to be a pain to crave 30 pumpkins but well worth it .... some are getting flowers that our florist will put in and others are getting designs.

I don't think you can persevere pumpkins for a week... we are craving ours out Thurs and taking them to the florist on Friday. I understand not wanting to do that to do it the night before so I think fake would be an option try Craigslist also. You may find fake ones on there.

I saw this photo on Pinterest and thought of your post. I think it can totally be done with a fake pumpkin!
