Funniest Wedding Advice

Hey, everyone! Laughter is great for offsetting wedding planning stress, and a funny thing that happened to me yesterday made me wonder: what wedding tips have other people received that they knew, as soon as they heard it, was an absolute no? I’m not talking about the frustrating impasses we usually run into on here, but the little harmless suggestions that make you go “thanks, but no way!”

Yesterday, I shared photos of my hair and makeup session with FMIL. She actually used to work in the cosmetology industry (nails, though, not hair and makeup), so when she finished scrolling through, I got a little nervous when she said “If I might make one suggestion.” Mostly because I was worried I had overlooked something egregious or embarrassing and was showing my lack of knowledge in this area. So FMIL goes on to suggest that I have my MUA draw an artificial mole on my lip or cheek, like that vintage beauty mark trend. Of course, I had on like a pound of foundation covering up my naturally occurring moles and freckles, including a very prominent freckle I have on the tip of my nose! I know this used to be a big beauty trend, but I can’t say it’s one I was planning on going with. She brought it up several more times over the course of our dinner, so I just shrugged and said we’ll see.
Totally silly and low stakes, but now I’m curious what other funny little details people have received an opinion about?

There was one post a while back where the bride's grandmother pushed her to get a white dress, over ivory. If she wore anything less than brilliant white, she said "people will think you've done stuff". It was the most grandmother-y comment ever.

The first question my grandma asked when I announced my engagement was "when do the diets start?" and then continually mentions keto to get "wedding ready"

My MOH also suggested we all get matching keds for the reception circa 2014 which is not my style in the slightest.

There was one person who was SO against our venue because she thought we were spending an exorbitant amount of money on it. For the record, we weren't, weddings just cost way more than they did when she got married and our venue was all-inclusive so at first blush it looks way more expensive than a venue where you're just paying for the space alone. But we actually ended up UNDER our budget and everyone was in awe of the venue when they saw it 😎
