So when I called to ask my cousin (he's 6) if he wanted to be a ring bearer:
Me: C, FH and I want to know if you'd like to be a ring bearer at our wedding?
C (in a loud aside to his mom): I don't know if I can, what do I have to say?
At which point his mom and I assured him he didn't have to say anything, while trying to contain our giggles. Turns out he thought we were asking him to marry us. =)

@FutureMrs.B my cousin said something similar!... we always spent our breaks together, and once we found her parent's wedding album, so we asked them to show us the pics (we always loved watching photo albums with someone telling us the stories surrounding each pic) and suddenly she starts crying about why didn't they invited her (we were about 6 I think) and same as with you... her mom tried to explain her she wasn't born yet and neither her older sister, so she looks at her mom and the other relatives in the room with eyes wide open and says "I was dead?!!" With an extremely shocked voice. We're both on our 30's and they STILL remind her about this

My aunt asked my uncle to come sit next to her. My kid brother (5yrs old) said, "that's the problem with wives. You always have to be ON them."

My cousin is my flower girl and she's is very shy and has had to talk herself into doing it. She is taking the job really seriously as a five year old . As a result she has been asking my grandma many questions she is concerned with. My favorite conversation went as follows
Cousin:"so is there goo to be kissing?"
Grandma: "yes there is."
Cousin:"....hmmm...I hate kissing."
Grandma: " well you can close your eyes."
Cousin: "okay. Are people going to be looking at me?"
Grandma:" yes they will be."
Cousin: "I don't know if I can handle that. I'll close my eyes then too."
Grandma: " honey you can't do that you need to be looking where you are going."
Cousin:"..."
