Gaining weight

Meaghan, on June 8, 2016 at 6:51 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 34

I'm afraid I'm the only bride in history who has GAINED weight throughout my engagement instead of lost. I am rather overweight to begin with, but I think I've easily put on another 10 lbs. Stress and emotional eating ...being separated physically from my fiancé (I'm in Japan, he's in San Diego), my job hunt, his job...ahh!!! It's just too much. I don't feel like this is the "most special time". It feels like the most STRESSFul time. Anyone else feeling a little non-bridal? I'm not even looking forward to dress shopping because of how "big" I feel. I'm 5'6" and 225 lbs last I checked.

You'll be happy to know that you are not the only one who gained weight. Lots of women do.

I've gained weight. It's a daily battle to not gain more. I stress eat, and went from a job where I was moving around constantly to a desk job. FH loves me no matter what, but I am scared that my dress won't fit.

I've gained also. Stress from planning and trying to find a job out of college and studying for my nursing boards and FH going through the process to become a police officer have taken a toll on me. Remember that FH doesn't love you because of your looks...there is so much more to you than that. And when you try on dresses it might suck if a sample doesn't fit you (been there) but the moment you put on your dress that fits you perfectly you'll fall in love with it.

Try to make peace with your weight gain. Once you do that, take the steps needed to lose the weight. My planning period was definitely not exciting, it was very stressful. I added to that stress by feeling guilty about my weight. When my epics came, I hated them. I hated dress shopping so much that I ended up buying a dress online. I fought through the whole planning period and I missed out on the excitement.

I have gained a little weight but slowly trying to get it off. All of that stress is definitely not helping. Try and find some you time to destress for a little. Funny I always said that my happy place was a pedicure chair, well recently I learned when I go to the gym and hop on the treadmill listen to music and totally tune everything and everyone out it's my happy place.

I gained weight too. Still haven't lost it and honestly Im not trying to. DH likes my extra fluff. Besides he said "why kill yourself losing weight now? If and when we get pregnant you'll just lose it all after."

He said we. I love that man.

I gained as well. I found a dress I love and that flattered me. Try and relax. No matter what you will be married at the end of all this.

I gained weight right after we announced our engagement and had to buy an off the rack dress. ( this avatar is of a couple I worked with, not of me and my hubby)

I gained weight instead of lost. But it's because I got pregnant about 6 months after getting engaged. I gained way more than I intended to and I really hope my dress still fits.

I've gained 10 pounds since my engagement but I still have time to lose it before the wedding and so do you if you want to!

I am super worried to get my dress in July.

I normally run daily - I had a really awful late winter early spring and did little running. And I broke by ankle/foot so now I am still not.

You have a little bit of time at least to let the stress wear off.

I also gained weight. Frustrating because I feel like I've been working out more and eating better, but it's been a stressful year and I'm bad at resisting temptations. Totally nervous about my first dress fitting, but trying not to freak out too much...

You're not alone at all... while I lost a bit of weight right after I got engaged (10 lbs,) I've recently gained 7 lbs back. Honestly, dealing with the stress is hard enough on top of trying to lose weight...

I'd like to lose the 7 lbs I've put back on, but if I don't, my fiance still loves me. I've let go of feeling pressured to look a certain way. My dress will still fit- tank god for alterations!

BUT, you still have plenty of time to lose weight if you want! Don't feel discouraged!

I hope all our dresses fit (or more importantly that we find dresses we feel BEAUTIFUL in!) and that we each have the wedding day we dream of. It sure is stressful at times, but I consider myself abundantly blessed that I found the man I love and I get to grow old with him. Smiley smile

You're getting married. There for you're 'a bride'. Don't get caught up in that. You can make positive changes and improve your body composition. But start loving your body now. It's beautiful and special and talented.

You are definitely not alone. I gained. And kept saying I had time to lose. Then I eloped and ended up being a lot heavier than I ever wanted to be on my wedding day. I was upset about it when I went dress shopping. And when I put on the dress the day of. And when I got pictures back. But it is what it is. I am still married and my husband still loves me (although when I look in the mirror, I don't know why). I am NOT fishing here, but if you are feeling any of this...just wanted you to know you are not alone.

You are not alone. I've gained so much weight and even tho FH says it doesn't bother him. I know it does. I know he loves me either way but he's knows I'm not happy. I honestly think this is why I'm not excited about the wedding. I hate dress shopping to begin with and this just makes it worse. This is the heaviest I've ever been and even my dr was shocked. I went to him last night and came home crying. I have a really hard time working out (I haven breathing issues) and most healthy foods make me physically sick. I've never had to worry before but now because of the weight it's even more pressure on my heart. (I had heart surgery 6 years ago)

Hello everyone! In the beginning of my engagement I was super stressed and it was taking a toll on me. I started walking for 30-45 minutes 3 or 4 mornings a week. Before my walk I drink a glass of lukewarm water with squeezed lemon in it. It helps kick-start your metabolism and hydrates you faster than a glass of ice cold water. DO NOT eat breakfast before your walk. Your body can handle a mild walk on an empty stomach. You will not pass out.

Within 2 weeks of doing this my stress was nearly GONE and my body started to naturally thin out. It sounds crazy, but walking is one of the BEST things you can do for stress. And like I said, first thing in the morning with a glass of lemon water and no meal before is what really makes the difference. Please try this- I hate to see everyone so stressed out!

I'm not a doctor, but this is a great form of exercise and stress relief for MOST people.
