Gamer/Geek wedding

themrsgoble, on February 21, 2016 at 5:11 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27

Hello everyone! I just got engaged and we are looking to do a gamer/geek wedding. However we dont want it to look like a hot mess of crazy ideas. I have looked on Pinterest and found really cool ideas. Our wedding is in 2018 in order to save money for our perfect day. We want to do it right, but not spend a fortune. Can anyone provide any ideas to narrow our theme down? Thank you in advance!

Hello and congrats on your engagement! I am also incorporating elements of gaming into my wedding. My advice would be to pick one game, or a color scheme from the game and subtly work it throughout your wedding. We are adding little xbox symbols to the decor as well as a gamer cake topper. Good luck! ETA: spelling

We are incorporating some Geeky elements into our wedding. The key is subtly. I don't think you have to choose one game as the pp said, but you can. Some subtle ways to incorporate your theme are in the processional music, cake topper, favors (if you have them), cake, and grooms/groomsmen's socks. I've heard of people using music from Zelda for the processional.

Eta: most of our geeky elements are Star Wars, Disney or Superhero related. FH is a big gamer though.

One of my favorite photographers did a wedding with a game theme and I love the way the photos turned out!

We're having a Nintendo themed reception...Mario bricks on the cake, Legend of Zelda chest for a card box, and life heart shaped soaps as favors. The fonts on our STDs and invitations are the original Legend of Zelda fonts. I think the key is to keep it subtle and simple. Narrow down your focus to one or two games so that everything flows together. It's an offbeat theme, and I feel like it can get cluttered very easily.

I'm having a World of Warcraft inspired wedding. Little touches like processional music from the game, the ring bearer will be carrying a stuffed "animal" from the game instead of a pillow, and tables will be named after locations in the game. Our wedding website also has a gamer theme background. It's subtle, but meaningful.

I am not having a wedding themed in this way, but i agree that in order to avoid going over the top, the theme should be in the details.

If you are doing a groom's cake, you can go all-out with it, depending on your budget.

Maybe just incorporate it in the small things like your shoes, cake topper, bouquet, cuff links. I agree with you that it can easily become cheesy and overdone Smiley smile

I would try to stick with one theme and keep it subtle. Do you like Star Wars? Doctor Who? Zelda? WoW?

Some things you can geek-ify: centerpieces, decor on gift tables, cake topper. If you are doing a groom's cake, you can definitely go all-out with it, like Kelsey said!

My friend's sister had a Mario-themed wedding. From what I hear, it was done fairly tastefully. I do know that she had each member of the bridal party in a different color to represent Rainbow Row.

We are including dice in our centerpieces, and possibly meeples as well. Our cake topper is Doctor Who.

I forget the name. Looks like a party bus but it's loaded with video games. You can rent by the hour and replace a photo booth maybe?

Thank you guys so much! I love the dalek cake topper! We are thinking of doctor who (which we both love) and Mario pieces. I didn't think of a groom's cake. My FH asked me about cupcakes because a lot of our friends are picky (and in need of gulten free). Maybe I can find an awesome doctor who cupcake rack? Off to etsy I go!! Lol

@twogeekswed your center piece is wonderful! Are you using gel for the liquid?

We are doing some subtle geeky/nerdy references in our wedding too. Our table names will be named after our favorite scientists (we plan to have number as well to make it easier to find), and we want to do the video game scavenger hunt that I found on OBB!

My FH works in the gaming industry for a MMO and I've seen a lot of party ideas over the past few years. Some tastefully done and some were just a hot mess.

I agree with most people, cakes are a great place to show off your ideas. Centerpieces, signature drinks could all be incorporated. The one idea I really liked was on the back of a program there was a crossword puzzle of the bride and groom's favorite games. While we waited for the ceremony to start, it was fun to fill in the questions.

I love this topic! FH and I are pretty hardcore tabletop gamers and he actually proposed to me at a gamer/geeky tavern. We want to have a semi-traditional wedding, but there will be small card- based table top games to play during cocktail hour, and maybe another small nod or two in the decorations. If it's in the budget I'm going to surprise FH with a dragon grooms cake.
