Gamers Geeks and Nerds sound off!

Now mrs. K, on March 12, 2013 at 7:15 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

For all the gamer, geek, and nerd brides out there (or those marrying gamers, geeks, and nerds) sound off. How are you incorporating that love into the wedding?

We are entering the reception to the Dr. Who theme

I am looking for either a Enterprise or a Tardis charm for my garter, but I'm beginning to think that I will have the settle for a model of the Hydrogen atom.

What have you got?

We had a "normal" wedding. But, I met my hubby at a LARP, and the majority of our guests were friends from gaming, LARPing, or co-workers at Wizards of the Coast. Throughout the entire planning everyone asked if we were going to have a geeky theme, especially after some friends of ours had a Zombie wedding.

But, nope, we have enough costumes, gaming, and dorkness in the rest of our lives... I wanted the wedding to just be a wedding, and it still conveyed who we are as a couple.

I do support that weddings can be as geeky and as unconventional as you want though! So far ours was the most normal wedding any of our friends have had. Even those that were held at traditional venues had "garb" in the bride/groom or wedding party outfits.

I was thinking of getting a Green Lantern garter Smiley smile I'd like to incorporate more into it. Thinking of naming the tables after some Star Trek or Superheros.

KadiePop-Green Lantern! Yeah! If you need help naming tables let me know.

Jessica-I have been to those weddings that take it to the extreme and some of them were fun. I have a lot of friends who are anacronists (don't know if I even spelled that right). I have been to pirate themed weddings and renaissance weddings (and have appropriate attire for both!), star wars weddings, star trek weddings (okay, will admit to having that appropriate attire for that, which FH loves Smiley winking ). Ours is mostly a normal wedding with little touches here and there to our loves.

I'm making our wedding reception completely gamer-ific. Everything's going to be xbox related....I was thinking about finding some old not-working controllers. The reception is all about his gamer side, while the ceremony is all about me! I'm not a gamer nerd, but i'm a book junkie. So, while the two of us are nerds in our own rights, it's how I'm putting them together.

I also put a ton...i mean a literal s--t brick house ton...of video game references in my vows. so, theres always that.

you could also just go to the offbeatbride.com and search gamer...there's always some killer ideas on there. Good luck!

My theme is literature, but it will be heavy on Hitchhiker references, which is FH's favorite book. We will have a reading and also there will be a Guest's Guide to Our Wedding handbook.

We are having a Lord of the Rings/Celtic (Scots) themed wedding. I know that for the most part trying to pull that off with under $100,000 is asking for corny. However, we found ways to really bring the feel in without making it feel awkward. We booked an amphitheater in the canyon that is older and sort of falling apart, very Helm's Deep. We'll also be having our luncheon at the adjoining campground immediately after the ceremony with dutch-oven medieval style food. We'll have string instruments and pipers to complete the mood.

For the reception later that evening we've secured a log cabin that was built during the turn of the century and will be attempting to 'hobbitize' the area. Two photo booths are going to be available outdoors (Shire and Rivendale fashion) complete with costumes for the guests to wear. The photos will be then sent as the thank you to those who attend.

Kilts and complementing flowing dresses on the girls. Smiley smile

We are doing a full comic theme. DC Comic heroes as tables. Entire bp is wearing chucks, FH has superman ones, i have wonder woman. All groomsman are wearing superhero cufflinks. Our recessional is the throne room theme of star wars. Wonder woman/superman cake topper. Our rings are engraved with Bind on Equip (we had been good friends for years, but we really started "talking" when we started playing together and seeing each other on at the same time. Our daughter is the flower girl, and she is wearing flash chucks and a cape over her dress that has here comes the bride embroidered on the back (she is 3)

Our save-the-dates will include a picture of us drawn in the style of our favorite Dungeons & Dragons webcomic.

Our flower girl dresses will be based off an outfit from a video game.

The groom and groomsmen will have geeky symbols incorporated into their boutonnieres and geeky cufflinks.

Our table labels at the reception will be video game references.

If possible, we will have an elven script for the engravings on our wedding bands.

It is possible that some of the groomsmen will change into chainmail and/or plate armor during the reception.

We will have six-sided dice as our wedding favors.

I will wear some sort of geeky jewelry, although I haven't fully decided on what it will be.

Our cake toppers will be us as D&D miniatures.

Our wedding theme is Elegant Geekery, so as I think of more ways to incorporate fantasy and video games into the wedding, they will happen. Smiley smile

Woot woot! In our wedding vows, we referenced Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "I promise to sing Anya when you sing Xander." My new SIL and her husband laughed out loud, apparently they do the same. Smiley smile
