Is it outside? If so you could have lawn games like corn hole.

Are the bride and groom attending the cocktail hour?

I was watching Four Weddings on TLC and they did a "Newlyweds" type of thing. Sit back to back and both hold Ken and Barbie dolls(or something to show bride/groom). Have the DJ ask questions and see how well you do on answering "who does this, who does that" kind of things.

Thanks everyone. So, the bride and groom will be away at a special photo shoot. While we are gone I wanted to have something to entertain our guest besides food and alcohol. I like all of your suggestions so far Smiley smile

We are doing lawn games for cocktail hour. Bocce, croquet, cornhole, ladderball. My brother's friend makes custom cornhole boards so I told him that's what I want for the wedding.

Maybe have an entertainer? I feel like most people would rather 'watch' than 'do'

I would advise you against doing this. Do you really want your guests to remember cornhole (or whatever activity you choose) more than you on your wedding day? Cocktail Hour should be (in my humble opinion) a time to allow your guests to know each other, facilitate conversation and talk about you, how they know you and the wedding ceremony. If you offer too many forms of entertainment, your guests will have fun, but you will lose the focus on the occasion.

Another reason for avoiding this is... HERDING people (yes, that's what we DJ's have to do sometimes) from one area to another becomes more difficult if there are task-oriented forms of entertainment. Be ready for your reception to consistently run behind schedule if you provide/offer multiple forms of entertainment. This will become an area of greater concern if you have a limited time period to get everything done.

I think your guests may get distracted with focusing on the game. The hors and drinks flowing will be plenty of activity during your cocktail hour. (IMOO)

Thanks Carlos and Dominique, I appreciate your opinion...I didn't think of it that way as a distraction from the real purpose of them being there. I will talk to my fiance about skipping the games. ANDDDDD it would be one less thing for to plan. =)
