Gantry Plaza State Park

Has anyone recently done any engagement shoots at Gantry Park? Just wondering if you need a permit for an engagement shoot? I read you need one for commercial photos, but it seem unclear about engagement shoots.

Hey Sully, has your photographer done shoots there before? They might be the able to advise you about what has worked for them in the past. When do you plan on taking them?

    Hi,

I am pretty sure that you do not need permits, but just double check with your photographer. I am hoping to take some wedding portraits there Smiley smile Happy planning!

The photographer I booked has done pics there and gave me the contact info to get a permit. They couldn't remember how much it was. I emailed the parks department and the permit costs $130 - $100 for the permit and $30 for the application fee. Needless to say I'm no longer going to take my pics there. Now I need to find a new location. Can't do central park or anywhere in the city because my photographer charges $300 to go into Manhattan or Brooklyn. I want to do my pics in the fall so I can get some nice fall colors.

Hi bride, did you check Brooklyn bridge park? Do they also need permits?

I did not check the rules for Brooklyn Bridge Park. Unfortunately for me, my photographer charges extra to do shoots in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I was originally going to do Highline and Central Park and the bar where we had our first date, but I rather not pay the crazy fee they want to charge for doing epics in Manhattan.

I took my engagement pictures there in October of 2016, and we did not need a permit. We spent at least an hour if not more there.
