Gap between wedding and honeymoon?

AG13, on May 28, 2015 at 11:56 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 30

Have been researching for hours and our best bang for our buck for the honeymoon is a cruise but its a week after the wedding and we would have to go back for a work for a week. I know it would suck but I almost think it would be kind of hectic to fly to leave to go somewhere the day after the wedding. Anyone else done this or planning too have a gap between?

I know plenty of brides on the forums have had a slightly delayed (or really delayed) honeymoon. We had two full days between our wedding and our honeymoon, and I'm so glad we did b/c we definitely need some time just to get everything together.

I didn't work in the break, but if I had, I probably wouldn't have had much to do-- everyone knew that I was getting married, so everything I had to take care of before the wedding was sort of pushed to get done, and anything else probably could have waited-- so depending on your job, its likely that your coworkers/boss will be able to keep things light for you during your return week. FH did work from home for one of the days before we left, and didn't really have anything to do, either.

We are going 12 days later. I have just two days off for the wedding but then fly from Boston to the UK for work for 4 days then back to Boston.. Then a few days later honeymoon. My first wedding: got married on a Saturday night, lasted til 1 am then had an after party. Flew out at 7 am. There was no way I was doing it again. Just book the cruise the following cheaper week!

We aren't going on our honeymoon for 3 weeks. So we will be going back to work on Monday! Stinks but we didn't want to leave right away. We wanted the weather to be a little colder. Smiley smile

We're going about a month after the wedding. We did because FH will be on winter break from classes. I wasn't that excited at first, and actually it was more expensive because it's close to Christmas. But the more I thought about it, it actually gives us a chance to get situated in a new home after the wedding, have Thanksgiving with our families, and get excited about something else! When you honeymoon right after the wedding, it's like you're excited for everything all at once. With a gap, you can do the whole wedding thing, and then still have something to look forward to.

ETA: Yes, we are not looking forward to going back to work afterward. I took Monday and Tuesday off following just to have a little more of a break.

If you can take the Monday off after the wedding that might help (if its possible).

We're waiting a full month - we simply couldn't afford the trip we want if we went right after our wedding. So we'll wait for the off season.

Yeah... I thought it would be nice to have the small break. We actually dont live together right now so I told FH we could play house for a week.

FH has it in his mind that he wants us to Leave from the Reception straight to the Airport! I told him NO WAY. I at least want to be able to go home and drop all of our stuff off before we go to the airport. So we're currently looking into flights for the evening after the wedding (we're going to either Greece or Thailand)

We're going right after...I couldn't bear the thought of going back to work that Monday. That being said, all of the title I could see on mobile was "gap between wedding and..." and I thought this would be a gap between wedding and reception shitshow. Glad it's not. Smiley laugh

Where are you looking to go? I found several cruises that leave April 18, 2016 on Carnival.

Not Miami though. We want the option to drive or fly and Miami is too far.

I saw that one Maltese and thought it was perfect but then I realized it ends at San Juan Puerto Rico..... it doesn't take you back to Florida which I thought was really weird.

The link I posted above is out of Jacksonville, not Miami. And it departs at 4pm

ETA: We're taking a similar cruise leaving out of San Juan and returning. Our flights were super cheap and we're staying an extra night to wander around and check out the city as best we can. Are you opposed to flying or just the cost of flying?

Well I have never flown and FH had only once. If we fly I would rather do it just to like Florida where it would only be a two hour flight. I am scared of heights and I do not know how I would do.

We're having a huge gap - 6 months. We wanted to wait until winter when it's awful in Canada. This way, we have something else to look forward to also!
