Garage decor for reception

Devon, on December 31, 2018 at 2:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

Hello All,

I'm new to Wedding Wire and trying to plan a budget-friendly, backyard wedding. Luckily, I live on 14+ acres and have a huge 40' by 80' garage that will host our reception.

My concern is that the garage isn't the most attractive building in the world. I see all these glorious pictures of barn weddings with beautiful exposed beams and a small amount of decor to highlight the natural beauty. Unfortunately, this building is a huge garage with yellow spray-foam insulation. How can I decorate the inside of this garage to make it look like a gorgeous venue while still remaining budget-friendly? Does anyone have experience with and insight about taking a venue from drab to fab?

I don't have much figured out about the wedding itself yet (there's plenty of time), but this is a concern that's looming over my head. I am looking for a somewhat bohemian, rustic vibe. Any ideas or thoughts are welcome!

Attached are pics of the garage for reference. Feel free to post pics of ideas. Thank you in advance for any contributions!

I would be most concerned about air conditioning in that. But maybe you have that figured out it was just truly my first thought! There are a lot of ways to drape the walls and ceiling but they aren’t really budget friendly. I don’t have specific recommendations but I would price a few different things out!

I think lots of drapery could help if you're able.

I’d start with the curtain dividers and use them to cover walls

that will change the room 100%

then some rugs, furniture, and regular decor should have you set

I agree with Kelly (like usual...) depending on where you are located, my first concern for a July wedding in a large building like this would be temperature/air flow over decor. As a guest, sure, I'd appreciate it if it looks pretty, but if I'm sweating to death inside an enclosed building in the middle of summer, I'll take industrial fans over wall coverings.

    Hello All,

    Thank you for your feedback.

I certainly do appreciate the feedback regarding air conditioning in the building. I definitely knew that this would be something to consider when planning to host a reception in the garage, but I am happy to have the reminder. I haven’t figured out what to do yet, but I certainly will be spending some time looking into my options. Making sure my guests are comfortable is a must! If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know. Or if there are other concerns that you all have about having a backyard wedding with a reception in a garage.

That being said, I still want to make the garage look nice. Thank you to all of the people who posted ideas or images. I definitely like the idea of drapery, but I worry about the costs. Any thoughts about how to keep costs down or places to find fabric, decor, etc.?

    Thanks!

I would look for pretty on sale fabric (you may be able to utilize after Christmas sales) for draping. Lace, tulle, silk, etc. The draping will help the walls look more festive! I'd also look into sales on Christmas lights for indoors as long as you have enough power to run them.

I think you can really transform the space and make it look amazing! PRoper lighting and decor would make this garage beautiful. To keep the cost down, you could always rent from local vendors or buy the drapery in bulk! Here are a few photos for inspiration:

NOT what you are asking me to answer here, but maybe a thought? Considering you have tons of room (obviously) maybe check out a tent rental? I'm nervous the price you'd pay on decor to take this garage to the elements you are wanting will be around, if not more, than a tent rental. Add in tables, chairs and such and that backyard wedding will be more than just renting a venue. (I know from experience. At one point we talked about getting married at my dads house.) Sometimes tent companies give good deals for bundles as well.

I'd take the time to price everything out before committing to decorating.

    Came back to edit!!

While looking for another brides post on here I stumbled across this. I know this looks more like a lodge meeting hall or something along those lines, but the walls look around the same color maybe. I like how the long white table clothes brighten up the room without being over bearing. The chairs close to the color of the walls blend it perfectly. That is very modern. Adding boho touches wouldn't be difficult once you start looking at center piece options. Different colored goblets, greenery on tables, or maybe bud vases down the tables with flowers and such? We are going for a boho touch as well. Feel free to message me for any more ideas!!
