Garland for Outdoor Wedding

Kristen, on April 26, 2017 at 12:15 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Has anyone used fresh garland for their wedding? How did it hold up in the heat? I planned to use quite a bit for my reception and ceremony. The ceremony is outside (mid-August) and the reception is in a barn. The barn will be air conditioned, but not until one hour prior to guests arrival. I'm worried that the garland will wilt. I will be setting up between 8-10 AM and the ceremony is at 5:30 PM. I know to spritz it well with water when I receive it, early that morning, and when it's all hung. I can also have it spritzed just prior to the ceremony, but it must be hung in the morning.

What kind of greenery is the garland made of, also where is the wedding located, what area? Both will affect the outcome. I am planning on doing the same thing and am having my own doubts, so I'm definitely interested in others responses.

Have you asked them how much they would charge to turn on the a/c earlier?

Is this a DIY, or is it a professionally designed piece? Garlands are one of my specialties, and If you paid a pro, each stem will have a water source. You don't have to worry about anything wilting or dying. Misting isn't a bad idea, but it's probably not necessary if everything has it's own water source. We have our secrets, lol. In fact, the garland should look good for several days (if not more).

It's professionally designed garland from Sam's Club. I'll post a pic! My wedding will be near Columbus, OH. So, average temps that time of year are 85 with high humidity. I'm renting a portable commercial AC type unit with a water reserve. The delivery guys will fill the water when they set it up in the morning and the reserve will last 4 hours. I think the garland inside the barn will be okay. It's shady and decently cool in there. I'm mostly worried about the garland outside.

Also, it's made of sala, huckleberry, and bear grass.

I ordered this garland as well! My wedding is 5/27 and I'm concerned about the same thing. I'd really like to place my garland out the night before after rehearsal dinner but I'm afraid it will wilt. I'm also getting married in a barn (in Alabama) with an expected temp of 80-85 degrees with 20-30% humidity. There are fans in the barn that I hope will help, and I can keep the barn doors closed/lights off to keep it cool. If anyone has any insights for this garland and how to keep it perky that would be great!!!

I talked to my florist who is doing the rest of my flowers. She said the stuff in the barn will be fine for me to put up at 9 AM for a 6PM reception. I'm paying the florist $50 to hang the garland that will go on the trellis though, since that would be outside all day. She said it won't really wilt, moreso dry out. If you are okay with that dried out look, try it. If not, maybe pay your florist for your other flowers to hang it last minute if you have a florist?? Or a trusted friend/family member. I would like to know how you ended up liking your garland and how it held up!!!!
