Garter Toss - yes or no??

I've been thinking a lot lately about the traditional bouquet/garter tosses and I'm fine with the bouquet toss, but I'm nervous about my new husband sticking his face up my dress where I've been sweating for hours and it's hot and sticky and gross. Then tossing the sweaty thing to all the unmarried men in the room. It just makes me uncomfortable to consider... I want to be even, if we do it for the ladies we should do it for the men but do the men in the room even care?

What have you ladies done to be more comfortable with it? I like the idea of the tradition but not thrilled with it actually happening... thoughts?

I did both and I'm glad I did. Our friends and family really enjoyed it. My husband did NOT use his teeth. That is gross. My husband is fairly reserved, so I wasn't worried about him being inappropriate.

We are doing the bouquet toss but not the garter. Even with the bouquet toss I am stealing an idea that I saw on here, which is: whoever catches the bouquet wins a set of date night gift cards. I have 1 single girl so we had to get creative!

Not doing a garter or bouquet toss. We won't really have any single people at our wedding except for my younger cousins.

I'm skipping both, if I have any say in the matter!

We haven't discussed it yet, but we'll probably skip both. Definitely skipping the garter toss!

If it's the sweaty garter you are worried about I have seen girls have an extra one just for the garter Toss that gets put on right before the toss.

We did both. DH did not pull it off with his teeth. That's just weird and I've never heard of that before. I don't get "hot and sticky" so I didn't care if he reached for it. lol

I am doing it. FH will not do it with his teeth. As far as being "hot and sticky" don't know if I will be (hoping it wont be too hot) I am marrying the guy... I am sure he will see worse things.... child birth?

We're thinking about doing something different with both since we don't have many single guests. We would open up the bouquet toss to all female guests with a gift basket for whoever catches the bouquet and the same with men for the garter. We'll put in a bottle of wine, gift cards and other goodies.

I think we will skip both since we are a little older and no single people really will be there

We're not doing either. I find it uncomfortable to hug FH in front on our parents, much less have his hand wandering around under my dress... And I don't want my bouquet to get messed up.

I'm considering going with Polish tradition.... I toss my veil (I bought a cheapie from ebay) and FH will toss his tie (still need to buy a fun tie cuz we can't throw the one he rents lol)

I didn't do either. My sister didn't do either. Our mother didn't even do them, and she's been married 37+ years. I saw one awkward bouquet toss, a few years ago, where no one would go out on the dance floor and participate. Couples milled around, who were waiting for the dancing to get started again. The bride threw a toss bouquet and someone sitting at a table walked out a few feet and caught it. Nope ...

Definitely depends on your age group, but at least in my circle of friends who are around my age (early 30s) the bouquet toss makes the girls uncomfortable, too. If you still want to toss, toss to all the women-folk, and whoever catches it gets a prize that does not involve being felt up by a drunk stranger, lol.

If you still want to do the garter, you can always sneak out and put it on a few minutes before the toss. And put it on just over your knee so it's easy for FH to get at. Make the prize good though, since without the prospect of feeling up some not-drunk-enough chick, you might have to motivate the guys to get out there Smiley smile

My fh and I have not talked about it yet. I'm game for the bouquet toss, the garter toss though is a bit questionable, maybe we can substitute it for something else. Idk still have time though.

    Personally, I think it's cringeworthy.

We are not doing the bouquet toss or garter retrieval/toss. I actually haven't been to a wedding in years where it was done. I think it tends to be done for younger brides/younger crowds.

A coworker still talks about her's 6 years later--but not in a good way.

Her husband thought it would be fun to 'pull things out' from under her dress, so it was this whole game with a soda can and various other objects before he pulled the garter out with his mouth. She was not prepared for this and was mortified!
