garter WTH!!

Caitlin, on January 17, 2012 at 1:25 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

So i was at the bridal shop picking up my dress to day and was looking at the graters for fun when i was waiting...... will to my horror lots of the really cute ones said "grade 2012"!! Really were selling graters to high school kids? Ok i know that lots of kids are missing around at that age I'm not ignorant but are we really marketing this to them? Im really losing faith in are society.

The women at the counter saw my surprise at this and she almost seemed up set that i was bothered by it. I said "aren't those for your husband to take off" she relayed "will i don't think they use them like that. they just like to have a keep sake"

Am i alone in my thinking that this has crossed a line? Am i just a prood that need to get with the times? Please way in!

No, I don't think an 8th grader needs a garter. High school, ok... we wore them to prom, didn't you?

p.s. fix your spelling Smiley smile

Yeah it's a lil weird... I actually never went to prom, but my FSIL had a garter for her prom and she did the whole lift the dress up over the leg to show the garter pic with all of her friends, I guess for some schools its a tradition or something!

I didn't wear one either. There are kids not 18 who go to prom. Sophomores go to prom. A 15 year old doesn't need a garter. But it's not that surprising. Have you seen what passes as a prom dress nowadays? I'm only 21 and I feel so old and prudish looking at what they wear to school functions now.

I know some girls that wore them to prom, but it was just a fun gimmicky thing. It really wasn't for the boys I don't think. They mostly just like to take those pics with their girlfriends with their dress hiked up to show the garter.

We had them as a favor for prom committee members in high school, and I graduated in 03. They actually came kind of small and didn't even fit over most of our knees (and I was a 6 back then).

I remember seeing them when I was in high school and thinking it was weird. I didn't wear one and I wouldn't want my daughter to wear one either.

At my FH's old high school cheerleaders wear them with their uniforms to football games and stuff. I was kind of shocked and I have only been out of high school for two and a half years.

@Jess and Chris - WHAT?!?!??! I'm a h.s. cheerleading coach and if my students EVER wore them with their uniforms, my principal would have me fired!!! That's just nuts!!!

Ok I feel old. No one wore garters to prom (I attended 3 at two different schools) or to my sorority formals. It seems trashy IMO.

As a cheerleader we wore garters all the time and sold them at games. Granted they were worn around our arms and were of our high school colors. Most of our mom’s made them for us. I guess it depends on the garter and the person wearing it. Yes we did have some students that wore them under their skirts but back then it was all in fun.

We wore them to prom. So I guess this isn't a big deal to me.

*What's really sick is I was watching the talk show Anderson yesterday and a mother went into a childrens store (they had little girl sizes down to toddler sizes) and found crotchless panties! She complained and they removed them.

No joke!. I am facebook friends with my old english teacher and she is also the cheer coach at my HS and I told her about it and she freaked! She pretty much said they were solicitating themselves and she was having it reported. I wouldnt wear one other than at my wedding but thats just me.

These cheerleaders wore them very high up on their leg with the shortest skirts I have ever seen. I wear short shorts but these were almost non-existant

A lot of girls wear them to prom (at least around here), they do the cheesy(imo sleazy) dress-over-the-knee pic, then after prom they give them to their date, who then hangs it over the rearview mirror in their car. Super classy.

I've never heard of wearing them to prom. I don't know if I like the idea either.

At lest I'm not alone in my thinking! I try to have an open mind but somethings just worry me. Im waiting tell my wedding day to wear one (omg almost here).

The panties remind me of the "fitness poles" for young girls that came with fake money....
