Garter/bouquet toss alternative

Loni, on July 8, 2017 at 11:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 59

So my fiancee isn't a fan of the garter toss but im kinda on the fence. Im curious to know if you did the tradition, had an alternative, or left it out completely?

I personally will be doing the garter and bouquet toss because I like to old meaning of it. I wasn't gonna at first and then I read into the meaning behind it and decided yes. My friend didn't do the garter and do a bouquet that broke into three bouquets when she tossed it. It was a cute idea.

We did neither. My parents have been happily married 40 years and didn't toss anything. I'm 30 and I've never seen a garter tossed (2 dozen weddings). The last time I saw bouquet tossed no one wanted to participate and it hit the floor.

We aren't doing either. Instead of the bouquet toss, we're doing a "longest married couple" dance and the last ones dancing will get the bouquet.

We're not doing them and thankfully I haven't been to a wedding in a long time that has done them. The background of these traditions honestly freak me out and gross me out altogether, let alone seeing them. I did go to a wedding that did alternatives to this that I thought were cute. The groom did a football toss and the bride gave a rose to every female there. Granted they had a small gathering so it was more manageable.

We're doing bouquet but not garter. I didn't care about doing the bouquet toss. I don't have the hatred for it that some do but I also don't love it. But my friends found out I was planning to skip it and begged for me to do it. So we are!

FH does medieval sword fighting. We are cutting the cake with his real sword. He also has a foam toy sword he got for a Halloween costume once. I'm considering having him throw that as a garter toss alternative.

We didn't do either. There was NO WAY I was letting H go up my dress in front of everybody we know, and the only single guests we had at our wedding were either teenagers or older and avowedly single. I asked my 2 single BMs if they wanted me to do a bouquet toss, and their answer was a resounding "NO," so I didn't, and kept my bouquet on my nightstand until we checked out of the hotel.

Leaving it out! I hate being forced to participate in them so we are very happily just cutting those traditions...I don't think anything is needed in their place people want to dance eat and drink mostly

But if you feel something is needed other than dancing...my best friend did the shoe game (just google) and it actually was pretty cute ! Need to coordinate with the DJ though!

I don't think we'll do either, but will most likely do the couple married the longest dance. I do like the idea a previous poster mentioned about giving all the single women a rose.

We plan to do both, but we will remove the garter privately first. That's the only part of the tradition that makes me uncomfortable! Sure, remove that garter from my thigh with your teeth while our grandparents watch. NOOOOOOPE. Hahaha. Oh, goodness.

FH doesn't want to do a garter toss and we don't really have that many single girlfriends for a bouquet toss.

I love love love the idea of the shoe game instead.

We're not doing either. I've always found them both inappropriate and off-putting. I doubt anyone will notice.

I'm on the fence about the garter toss. On one hand I think it may be funny since our families are really good natured about such things, but, on the other I don't know if I'm 100% comfortable with him fumbling around under my skirt.

As for the bouquet we're going to put it into a locked box and give all the single ladies keys that may or may not open it. We're doing it this way because I'm known for accidentally flinging things into impossible places
