Gastric Bypass Brides

Private User, on November 6, 2014 at 3:08 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 6

Hey girls, I am looking for some feedback from brides who had gastric bypass surgery before their wedding. I am getting surgery done in December, and will be getting married November 2015. Every dress place I speak to says I should order my dress 7-9 months in advance, which means I should order the dress by February. I know that I will still loose weight from when I order the dress to the time it needs to be altered; I guess my concern would be how do I order a dress if I don't know what size I will be? I know the dress could be taken in but I am worried about the dress loosing its style and shape if it needs to be taken in too much. What do you think?

My mom's cousin lost over 200lbs with gastric bypass. I would ask your doctor how quickly he thinks you will lose weight, and perhaps look for a gown that has a corset back, as they are more forgiving.

Or you can shop off the rack a couple of months before your wedding. Either way, I would buy as close to your wedding date as possible, since dresses are normally non-refundable.

Ditto was Sunshine said. You should hold off and buy a dress that is not so time restrictive. Yes, some dresses take 8 months. But some dresses take 2 weeks. Apparently ones at David's Bridal are quick. So you may want to go there. And definitely ask the doctor. Good luck!

My BFF had a different type of surgery, same basic result. She did so the year before her vow renewal and ended up buying two different dresses as things were not where they once were before the surgery and the size she guessed was still too big. She lost over 100 lbs but didnt take into account that there would be excess skin and boob shrinkage etc. As much as I hate to send anyone to David's they will probably be your best option post op as they only require a few months and not the 6-12 other bridal salons who dont mass produce to for your dress to come in. Luckily it was a renewal so she was able to find her second dress at the $99 sale off the rack. It's a lot of money to risk to order pre surgery, although I've seen it done on SYTTD. Ask your doctor prior to purchasing to get a size estimate if you want to order this far out.

On July 31, 2008, I had the gastric sleeve surgery. Within 7 months, I lost 95 lbs of the 100 lbs my doctor wanted me to loose (I was 225 lbs. and went down to 140 lbs). I lost this because I was doing everything I needed to do when it came down to my meals, drinking fluids, vitamins, and working out 5 days a week for an 1 hour. Originally, my wedding was schedule for 9/28/14. On 6/26/13, we decided to get married because I was in lieu of loosing my health insurance. On 1/30/13, I fell on my former job and was terminated on 6/10/13. I am still dealing with a worker's compensation case against my former employer. Also, I had a son on 3/17/14, so I have gain excess weight that I have to find a way to get off since I cannot exercise. My dress was already order from the original date but I am waiting to wear it on the new date in front of family and friends. Definitely, I would talk to my doctor or physician assistant to discuss details about my weight loss surgery and the weight loss process in order to help me decide on when to order my dress. This is your day and you want everything to be right. I wish you all the luck in your journey.

No surgery here, but Inhave lost 30 pounds over the last year and a half and I never expected to shrink so much up top as opposed to all over. I would wait until closer to the wedding and try a shop like DB although as someone else said, I hate to send anyone there either. I did buy my dress there and it came in very quickly. Best of luck with your surgery!

I also recommend off-the-rack. That way all you need is 3-4 month for alterations. You want the dress to fit as accurately as possible!
