Gatorade for wedding beverages / favors???

Mrs. Noble, on June 6, 2012 at 9:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Okay, as you may recall from me saying earlier... my FH proposed to me at the finish-line of a triathlon. A month later, we both completed our first 70.3 Ironman Triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run ...yes, all in the same day! It took him 7 hours and 8 for me.) Anyways, we are both pretty athletic, although he is a better swimmer and I have better stamina for long-distance running.

We have sort of talked and joked about giving out Gatorade bottles in our colours as wedding favors, or at least having it as an option for beverages, as well as some wine (I'm thinking a couple bottles on each table) but we do not want an open-bar.

I know it sounds a little crazy, but we want to put a little spin on the traditional cookie-cutter wedding, although my mother will not allow us to have a "big loopy triathlon-theme-party wedding!" In other words, we are not allowed to have this... (pic 2) ... BUT something like this one (pic 3) MIGHT be possible.

What do y'all think???

I think gator-aid might be cute- if everyone knows the back story. Or even just serve water out of those big orange things. I think the best way would to do them as favors. You could attach a cute little tag explaining it....

FH and I run half-marathons together. He proposed with a custom made race medal (my avatar) that says 13.1 months and still running strong. We are getting married on the 131st day of the year. We don't want to have a running themed wedding, but we are putting some running elements into our wedding. The below picture is our cake topper I bought from etsy. Another wedding-running idea I saw online is to use old bib numbers as table numbers.

Hahaha, we like the big orange gatorade cooler idea!! I said to Steve "but we werent thinking orange into our colour scheme" and he said "we might be able to get a yellow one."

As for idea of favors, I was thinking with a tag and ribbon tied on, just forgot to mention it.

I think my mother might say NO to any gatorade (or any other sport drink)... but it is our wedding, NOT her's!

I think you could put a really cute message, like "love is a marathon, not a sprint" or "Something to help you recover for Anne and XXXX's awesome wedding"

@Sara - We also have seen the table markers with bib numbers and were thinking about doing that! As for half marathons, I'm starting to lose count, but I think I've done 15 or 16 of them, now! (plus 5 fulls and a trail 50k) Steve says he hates running, but he will run with me, occasionally, and did one marathon with me, last year! Smiley smile

@Shellie - that is cute idea! As for analogy of distance running = life.... I found a picture I drew the week we met and it has like a long road with a runner (me) on it and there was a cross, and family (as stick figures, haha) and some hearts and stuff like that and then it said the finish line was heaven, which was way in the distance, since the road was very curvy. Smiley smile

So, after seeing another thread post about favors, I'm thinking gatorade 20oz with a tag and ribbon explaining it + a donation made in lieu of each guest for the Children's Tumor Foundation, for maybe like $5 / per person. (its a charity that has a team which "we" do fundraising for... aka- I do most of it) ... Anyways, how about that? Smiley smile

Charity donations in lieu of favors always start a debate.

As a guest, I don't care for favors, and leave most behind. But likewise, I don't care what the couple does with their money. In other words, if they donate to a charity, I don't have to know about it. It most certainly is a nice gesture, but it's in no way a favor to guests.

People are also picky about which charities they want to donate to. So donate to whoever you'd like, but the wedding guests don't have anything to do with it.

I think the Gatorade idea is really cute. Sounds like it really fits your personalities and people would get it. Not everybody likes Gatorade (I don't) but not everybody likes anything. Smiley smile

I'm with Mrs S on the charity favor though. It's wonderful, but isn't a favor to me as your guest, and TBH I think it's kind of showy.

Mostly, go you for completing an Ironman. Holy guacamole.

Hmm, yeah, I can see what you mean about the charity donation, but at the same time, I still like it. Most of my friends and relatives know that i do this fundraising for CTF, which is to help find a cure for a disorder that affects myself as well as a number of people that I know.

    brief explanation here... https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/serious-question-about-children-pgd-iud-etc/f4100a529dec028f.html

My FH does not like to ask people for money at all, so I end up doing most of the fundraising letters- I sent out about 75 of these letters in the past 2 months.
