Excellent! I just posted this on my Facebook page.

Friends of mine got married about four years ago. At that time, our county recognized same sex marriage. The Supreme Court reversed the decision, voiding many, many marriages. Sad!

I have two friends, ladies, who have been together for over 30 years!

The issue comes down to too many homophobes thinking that same sex relationships are all about sex. They are not. They are about love, respect and family.

Thank you for posting this link!

You know what really rubs me the wrong way is people say it's about family values. do you know how many heterosexual marriages end in divorce because of cheating/abuse etc. BULLSHIT it's about family values. A family is people that love and respect each other...end of story. Anyone who uses the family values excuse is absolute moron.

I totally support same sex marriage Smiley smile If they love their partner's just as much as I love my FS then I see nothing wrong with it. The only wrong that's happening is their being prevented the same rights that we have.

Kind of on the topic . . . I have to say that I know, and have know of, many gay couples who are very loving and nurturing to each other. I believe that every person is free to choose their lifestyle, even when other's do not agree. (Although, I would concerned if any said lifestyle placed other people in eminent danger, ie: addicts and such.)

That being said, I don't understand how some states can refuse adoptions to gay couples. While some may not agree with the lifestyle choice, I fail to see how does choice impacts the ability of a person to parent! Though a couple may be gay, I do believe that they have a right to parent. Especially in the case of the US foster/adoption system where so many kids need loving homes and strong foundations.

Ok. Sorry for the mini-rant. ;o)

This is great. We live in CA (in the liberal SF Bay area), but are getting married in NH - which is supportive of gay marriage! Our contribution to the cause (because I'm a two mom gal) is to have the below sign at our reception with a bunch of little white knots on pins for guests to wear, if they choose. It's not an original idea, I got it from whiteknot.org

I just ran across this article by Dan Savage today. I loved this bit:

The clerk called over her manager, a nice older white man, who explained that Amy and Sonia couldn't have a marriage license. So I asked if Amy and I could have one--even though I'm gay and live with my boyfriend, and Amy's a lesbian and lives with her girlfriend. We emphasized to the clerk and her manager that Amy and I don't live together, we don't love each other, we don't plan to have kids together, and we're going to go on living and sleeping with our same-sex partners after we get married. So could we still get a marriage license?

"Sure," the license-department manager said, "If you've got $54, you can have a marriage license."

Love that letter. thanks for sharing! I purchased white knots from whiteknot.org because my mom is gay and i have many gay friends and relatives. I sometimes feel like my mom is such a momzilla with MY wedding because she never had the wedding of HER dreams. You know? Anyway, i purchased the white knot kit in hopes of pleasantly surprising my mom and her partner (who is walking me down the aisle, btw). However, my mom found out early and has forbidden me to put out the knots. Smiley sad It saddens me. She's NOT the feminist/activist-y type, but her partner has some tendencies. She was ALL for it and was proud of me. My mother was not. *shrug* Still upsets me a little.

    Great letter!

I live in the US but I was born in Argentina and I am very proud to say that since 07/15/2010 my county recognized same sex marriage by law. It was about time people!!!

I'm actually going to a "commitment" ceremony in Tennessee in a few days. Its my FH's cousin. At first the family wasn't sure about all this. I'm excited to go. I just love her and her partner are great! FH's other cousin was at her partner's 40th birthday party last weekend and their cousin made a slide show and it took her hours and days to make it. But she was so proud of her slideshow for her girlfriend. She just sat there engulfed in the movie and her partner. That's when the FH's cousin said I might not understand it but I'm at peace with it because she truly loves her and was glowing. Before her partner, FH's cousin was married and he cheated on her so they got a divorce. She was never a lesbian but then she met her partner and I think she's in love with just her. Like I don't think she is a lesbian for any other girl but her partner. I can't wait to go to the commitment ceremony! It is ashame that they had to make sure people were "friendly." Not cool.
