Many people have told us that it's "weird" because our relationship does not fit within the typical "gender roles".Do you think partners should have different responsibilities according to their gender? Why or why not?

I do agree that the idea is outdated. I still don't do things like taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, answering the door at night, etc.

In my relationship, the task that we do is based on our time and skill level with completing tasks.

    What’s a “house husband”? I don’t get that term 🤔

The trend in the comments is teamwork/shared responsibility.

A man who will stay at home, cook, clean, and do the typical roles that would be associated with a "house wife".

I’d say FH and I do the same amount of cleaning but let’s be honest he does most. He also cooks the most too with me doing a meal or 2 throughout the week. I do the majority of the dishes and all of the laundry. I’m definitely spoiled but it is what it is.

I like to be provided for but I can also provide for myself so the typical gender roles would never work for me.

My FH does most of the cooking, dishes, and laundry. I do the rest. I also have 2 hands on kiddoes that require a ton of my time. I also bring home more bacon, so you could definitely say we don't fall into traditional gender roles.

Yes, I get the comparison 😉 But that would be pretty much just reversing gender roles! I’m talking about not assigning roles based on gender or stereotypes. So if both partners work outside of the home, they should both work inside of the home & have equal roles in parenting. Besides, for me, just as it is unacceptable having a man who does nothing inside of the house, it would be equally disappointing having one that doesn’t have a job outside of the house 😂 I could only ever be interested in the “whole package” lol.

Equal is the key word there. I don't think that gender roles are equal.

I would absolutely love my husband to be a stay at home dad. I call it a "house husband".

Scheduling definitely impacts what role you can play around the house.

I would also classify myself as spoiled and I love it. I do my best to make him feel spoiled as well though so its an equal partnership.

Now that you mention it, I think we should swap gender roles, 😂. No, I'm kidding, I do agree with equal partnership and both parties pulling their weight in the relationship 😉.

FS and I tend to stick to some roles but not others. She tends to do more of house cleaning because she's very intense about it. I tend to plan out the finances more, as it's a strength of mine. However, she's just as likely to kill a spider or make a repair around the house - sometimes more than me! Cooking is a role we share, as is grocery shopping usually. For us, it's often a matter of convenience and who's around to do it.
