We will be having our ceremony on the beach, and then move the reception to the sky deck. They have us in the ballroom for a back up if it rains though!

I bet the sky deck will be amazing! We were originally going to have our wedding and reception on the beach but my fiancé is concerned about being too hot so we decided to move the reception to the ballroom.

Oh yeah, I am worried it's going to be really hot also. I asked if we could make it a little later like 5:30 to maybe help so the sun isn't so intense. Have you picked out any decor or done any further planning?

Yea I've been thinking about pushing our ceremony time back as well. As far as decor, I have changed it so many times. Lol! For now I am going with the vintage elegance for my reception. For the ceremony I am going to add a few things to the basic package that is already included. Originally I wanted to come up with my own decor for the reception but it's so hard to put everything together and hope it looks good without being able to see everything together and I found it to be too stressful for me to pick everything individually as far charger plates, napkins, etc... So I decided to just pick one of their options and I'll coordinate with that. I haven't really started on anything else just yet. I wanted to wait on bridesmaid dresses until I know for sure who all is coming. Even though everyone's rooms are booked I still feel like with everything being a year away anything can happen. I have picked out my dress though. What about you? Have you started anything?

Hi Ashlee, welcome!! Such a small world. Maritza has been very kind to me. I'm at the weekly response phase lol but I'm used to it by now. My ceremony and cocktail reception will be on the sky deck. My fiancé wants us to use the beach for something though so we may do the welcome party there if we don't change our mind about saving money and just meeting up at the pool bar. SO crazy ya'll are gonna be there at the same time getting married Smiley shame Our wedding is in October so I can't wait to hear about ya'll wedding when it's over. I'm glad we have this forum to be able to vent with each other. I thought planning a destination wedding would be easier than a local one, but whew it's still A LOT of work. When did you pick your dress? I still haven't started looking yet. I'm trying to get over this engagement shoot hump 1st and then I'll be able to move on to the next thing. Trying not to stress as much but it's easier said than done. Good luck on your planning :-)

Hi Lisa, thank you for the welcome! Yea I'm usually at a week response with Maritza as well. I actually called the resort one time and we actually spoke. She is very nice though. One time she responded back to me in the same day! I was so shocked! And yes I agree with you, I thought this was going to be way easier! It's really hard. Maybe you guys can take pictures after the ceremony on the beach that way you can still incorporate it into your wedding. But I think the welcome party is a great idea too!

We actually didn't take engagement photos. We used our pictures from the proposal for our website for our guests to book their rooms. I am using a company called Romance Travel Group. They have been very helpful. I was originally with destinationweddings.com but the agent they partnered me with was taking her precious time. I think because my wedding was 18 months away at the time she wasn't taking me very serious. I felt like I was constantly chasing her so I decided to find someone else. Romance Travel was on top of everything from the start. I am very pleased so far.

I chose my dress in March and it wont' be ready until September. I wish I would've waited because my sister is also getting married (sept 2019) and she found her dress this past weekend at a bridal shop that was selling $1,500 dresses for $99. She found her dress and was able to take it home same day and all she needs to do is hem it and add a bustle. Either way I love my dress so and I can't return it so I just have to move on to the next thing.

For some reason, I'm not getting any notifications when you respond. I get them after I open the app up smh. I looooove Oriental Trading!! Ever since I got a magazine in the mail, I've been hooked. They have so many cute things that you don't even think of. I want to get an aisle runner from them, they have cute memorial things that you can incorporate for family members that have passed away, they literally have it all! Did your coordinator say when your rehearsal would be? Maybe you can go sneak a peek when they're setting everything up? I'm sure you'll be busy getting dressed as well. Oh nice! I can't wait to see your pics since we chose the same collection. I do want to tweak some thing; I just haven't even gotten that far to think about how or what I want to do yet. That's great your sister has those connections to help you out. For the welcome bags, have you talked to them about placing it in the rooms for you or are you handing them out? I don't blame you for stressing; I'm freaking out myself. I honestly think I'm going to start seeing a life coach or something cause it's all too much lol. I'm such a control freak and a natural worrier so that doesn't help at all!! I'm glad we have each other to lean on though. We should all do a group message. Oh my coordinator just had me pick out menus for every party we're having. Have you done that yet? I thought I didn't have to pick until sometime next year when we got closer to October so that's been driving me crazy cause I had to make food decisions before I was ready to.

Aww sorry to hear that about destinationweddings.com! I absolutely love the person they paired me with. She was on it from day 1 and very responsive. I did talk to Maritza once before and she is very sweet. In the beginning I was weary cause of the response time but my agent reminded me that she has other weddings to plan right now and after reading on here I got a better understanding. What is your ceremony start time? Have you picked out flowers yet or menus? Your sister got a great deal! WOW...that's so sweet to be planning a wedding the same time as your sister. Is she having destination too? I feel you on wanting to save but you're happy with your dress so that's all that matters. I think I'll start looking soon though. At first I was thinking the winter but now I'm thinking the summertime I should start browsing. Are you all doing bridesmaid proposals? Have you picked your bridal party yet?

Yea I have gotten use to the 1 week response time now so it's not so bad. I no longer check my phone every second. Lol! My ceremony time is at 5 pm but I am thinking about pushing it back. My fiancé hates to be hot so my photographer suggested we move it back but I haven't spoken to Maritza about that yet. And I choose the BBQ deluxe buffet because I am super picky with food and I wanted everyone to have options. Some of the other menus I couldn't really see myself eating. I have picked out flowers but I have changed them a lot. I look at the lomas wedding website where you pick all your décor all the time. And yes she got an awesome deal! She is having her wedding at a venue where we live and yes it's been really cool planning everything together and being able to relate with the struggles and the fun parts too! And yea I don't think it would hurt to start browsing and see what's out there! I did proposal boxes very early because I was very excited! Lol! I have 6 bridesmaids including my sister who is MOH.

My ceremony time is at 5 right now too but I emailed Maritza to change it to 5:30 to push everything back slightly to end the night at midnight. The menus are so overwhelming. I'm doing the Mexican donkey menu for the welcome party and I picked the white glove menu for the cocktail after the ceremony. Still trying to decide on the menu for the reception. There are a lot of items on there I couldn't see myself eating lol plus I'm trying to keep the guests in mind. FH wants to do surf and turf but I'm trying to save money where we can so I'm leaning towards the chicken stuffed with shrimp so we'll see. I did pick our florals through them for now but I'm also researching outside vendors to see if I can get what I want at a cheaper price. Lomas seems to be a bit pricey to me. Have you booked photographer, Dj, makeup, or hair yet? How did you do your proposals? I'm torn on if I should spend a lil extra to have boxes already made or if I should get creative from Michael's and do it myself and buy everything individually. Like you I have a huge bridal party too. I had 6 but now I'm at 5 because my FSIL is super shy and told me she'd rather not be in it but will participate in everything behind the scenes. I get it and don't want to make someone uncomfortable. I'm asking my sister to be my MOH as well and she has no clue. She's been ranting on and on about how she knows me the best but I'm throwing her off to make her think she's not it and it's hilarious LLS!! So I'm hope she's thrilled when she sees her box. That'll be so cool to experience your sisters wedding 1st and have yours in a few months. I'm stressing on outfits for our engagement shoot so mentally I'm not ready for THE dress shopping yet lol. As stressful as the planning is, it's SO fun at the same time.

Proposal box Generations Riviera Maya 1

I think I may switch mine to 5:30 as well. And yes the menu is very overwhelming. The chicken stuffed shrimp sounds really good! Yes I agree the lomas website is definitely pricey. We are bringing our photographer from our home town. He is going to stay the 3 nights to avoid the vendor fee, but we will take pictures at the rehearsal/welcome dinner, wedding, reception, and pics the next day so I feel like we are getting a good deal. Plus if I chose one of their photographers I would only get them for the wedding and reception and I think it will be nice to get the whole weekend and I'll be paying the same price. As far as hair, makeup, and nails, my bestfriend is a makeup artist, my sister does hair, and my nail girl is one of my really good friends and they are all in the wedding so I won't have to hire anyone for that. I'm most likely going to get a sew in and I'll just have my sister re-curl and touch it up before the ceremony.

As far as the proposal boxes I ordered them online from amazon they were not very pricey at all and I bought little trinkets to put in them. I will try to attach a picture of them on here. My MOH box said Will you be my maid of honor and the bridesmaid box said will you be my bridesmaid. I also may end up with 5 instead of 6 because I am having some issues with one of my bridesmaid and I'm trying to figure out what to do with that. It's a very difficult decision to make since I've already asked her. Omg I think your sister will be so excited once she's found out that you chose her!

Your proposal box is too cute! Girl you’re so lucky you have all your vendors as friends lol. My hardest part is trying to find someone that can do my hair and makeup. Not really feeling the looks that I see in Mexico so I think I’m gonna have to pay to fly someone out. I think I’ll be able to get a photographer in Mexico so I can avoid any extra travel fees although I love the photographer that’ll do our engagement shoot but the cost will be too much to fly her out. I didn’t think about having someone take pics for every event. That’ll be perfect and plenty of memories for you! I feel so behind. All I have done right now is book my photographer for the engagement shoot 😩 I’ve been asking for quotes from vendors but some have told me that it’s too early to book plus I don’t want to run the risk of booking someone now and finding someone better later. Decisions decisions!

Random. I just started with DW.com. I am very pleased to see others are utilizing their services. My current coordinator is looking into Mexico and Jamaica. I'm super late in the planning process as we plan to get married end of July2020! All this information shared was very helpful. Thanks

Hey Kalia, congrats on your engagement. I hope you love DW as much as I do. I think the 3 of us here have found our coordinators to be very helpful and responsive. I don’t think you’re late at planning. Some ppl do it in 6 months or less. I just started super early to lock in good rates so it would be easy for my family. I still haven’t even sent out save the dates yet so my booking hasn’t even started yet besides immediate family. Wishing you the best of luck during your planning and I hope you’ll find it easy to pick your dream venue 😊

Hey! I'm also getting married at GRM in June 2020! Our ceremony is on the pier and reception in the thatch hut palopa on the beach! What are y'all doing for food? Are you doing additional appetizers? Also has anyone heard who's good at doing hair and make up there? I don't want to get who ever is left once I show up!

Hey Caitlin, welcome! How’s planning going? I am having appetizers for my cocktail party before the reception. The receptions there are for 2 hrs. I chose the Mexican fiesta menu. As far as the dinner, I haven’t decided on that as of yet. We don’t get married until October 2020. I’m not sure about hair and makeup there. Personally, I’ll be bringing my own hair and makeup artist with me. I’m a bit weary on entrusting someone else since I’ll be getting a weave. When I was doing research for vendors one Mexico they didn’t look that good to me. Let me know if you find someone 😊

Super late to this party but I will be getting married at generations as well on June 6, 2020. I'm glad to hear we are all having similar experiences during the planning process, I'm the first person in my family to have a destination wedding so I never know what to expect. I can attest to the beauty of this resort because I have actually gone twice. (I would be more than happy to send pictures and videos if there is something specific you want to see) the first time I went was in September 2018 with one of my bridesmaids for the bridal shower experience, which is a discounted trip for people looking to get married there where they "sell" you the wedding packages and then I went for a second time this past June with my fiance. Both times I loved my experience there. Have any of you been quoted any total wedding package prices? I am curious to see how much everything typically comes out to. since my wedding is still far out and people are still booking rooms they haven't been able to give us a price quote. I'm expecting about 150/160 guest and currently have 140 booked

Hey Aleesha, welcome and congratulations on your engagement! I’m the 1st in my family as well to do a destination wedding. My fiancé’s fam has done it a few times but Mexico will be a new destination for them so I’m excited about that. Please send me some pics and video if you can to *****************@*****.***. That’s so good that you’ve been twice already. We won’t have the time to go before the wedding because of work. We’re inviting 200 ppl but I have had the on site coordinator quote us for 130. For 130 I’ve been quoted $20k for the wedding itself, rehearsal dinner, a welcome party, and farewell brunch. We send save the dates out by the end of August and I’m setting November 1st as the deposit deadline. So far we’ve only had immediate family and bridal party book in April. When did you start booking? That’s awesome that you got that part out of the way so you can start to get realistic numbers together! How has planning been for you thus far?

Omg Caitlin that's so exciting we will definitely have to get together sometime that week. How long will you be there? I will be there from 6/3 until 6/10.

Lisa I will be sure to email you all the pictures and videos I took at all three resorts. I did things extremely early, we sent out around 280 STDs in January and set a RSVP deadline/room registration by June 6, 2019. We did it that early because we knew we were going to Mexico and wanted to have concrete numbers when we meet with our on site coordinator (our coordinator is Shelley). We wrote on our STDs that we would not be sending out formal invites and instead to visit our website to RSVP. Joealeesha2020.weebly.com here's our website if you want to check out how we phrased things in terms of the resort since we reserved rooms at all three resorts. But overall planning has been extremely easy I'm using a travel agency company out of Pennsylvania and our travel agent has been very helpful with getting all of guest booked. Our onsite coordinator has been very accommodating as well and has asked me to share my pinterest board with her so she can help recreate my vision but I think for the most part I will be bringing my own decor and only getting the flowers/vases from the resort. How is everything going with your planning?
