George Street Photography

Brittany, on June 6, 2019 at 3:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
Does anyone out there have any personal experience or know anyone who has with George Street? We’re trying to find a photographer and videographer and since it’s such a huge investment I don’t want want to hire a bad company with poor work. Thank you in advance!

My only experience is this: I reached out to them and they hounded me constantly until I just marked their emails as spam. They set you up with local photographers in your area but they do run reasonable specials all the time. I considered them until I found the photographer I eventually hired.

This is what my fiancé and I went through as well. My sister is a photographer so I had her look over their work for me when I was considering them and she said they're decent but you could probably find someone else for similar pay and better quality.

I ended up booking Lily and Lime which is a similar concept to George Street. I found Lily and Lime to have good prices and the process of booking was super easy.

They had some competition to win free photography for your wedding... I am not sure if anyone even won, maybe it was just a marketing scheme? They contacted me many times and said, “oh you can pay now and if you win, we will refund your money.” I ended up going with an awesome photographer I found on instagram.

The same thing happened to us - we got in touch at a wedding show. I regret it personally. HOWEVER - everyone I know who has ended up using them has had a good experience and the photos came out great. I just didn't care for push sales tactics and found someone I liked better.

Currently experiencing this! I entered their wedding photo contest, didn't win, and they've hounded me with emails, texts, and phone calls. We did an initial consultation with them, and they sent me work samples of photographers in my area. We liked two of the four people they recommended. I'm in the DC-market, and for a little over $2k, we'd get two photographers (one for 8 hours and one for 6 hours), various rights to all prints, and a printed, leather-bound 10x10 photo book, among other things. We haven't booked them yet; we're still getting quotes from others. But we're learning towards them since we'll get a second shooter for less than half the first shooter (DC average for one shooter is between $1200-$1500, at least in my research)

I hired Walls of Jerico Photography for my photo, video and photobooth. I haven’t had my wedding yet, but my engagement photos came out amazing and they are such delightful people and our Photoshoot was so much fun.

I'm in the DC area too! If you want another option for photography let me know and I'll be glad to pass on my photographers info! She's shooting our wedding next Saturday so I'll be able to share my experience a little better then. But I love the work I've seen from her so far and she's been a dream to work with.

There have been a few brides on here that used then and were very pleased. Like another bride above, we used Lily & Lime for our wedding day and absolutely loved our photographer. The company was great to work with (not a lot of spam and NO high pressure sales pitches) and our guests RAVED about our photographer all night long. Our pictures came out amazing!

Something to remember if considering a service like these, the photographers are real photographers. Some are just starting out but super talented, and some may be new to the area trying to build a local portfolio. You won't get the edits in a base package that a self employed photographer will give you, but you can get them for an extra charge. You may have to make your own album, but it's not hard and sites like Shutterfly have sales often and their albums are beautiful - I designed our album with a gorgeous acrylic cover and heavy cardboard pages for under $500 after waiting for just the right sale.

I have no experience with George Street Photography but I saw your post and started looking for answers because I was starting to consider them as well. I was also looking into Lily and Lime and I've seen some good things about them as well here in the comments. I guess we'll see what happens. If you so choose GSP, I'd love to hear back from you about your experience.

Check out my notes about our experience with Lily & Lime here:

All very positive. Excellent customer service too. They've changed their packages a bit since we booked for our wedding last year but they seem to be changed for the better!

Like others, I entered their contest, didn't win but was hounded with "offers and specials" afterwards until I unsubscribed from their emails.

Hi Darcy! If you could pm me her info/website, that would be great! Is she lower than what George Street has quoted me? I mean, honestly, everything wedding related is a sticker shock.
