Getaway Car Question

Erin, on September 10, 2014 at 12:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

FH has a Cobra Mustang that is in mint condition. It's garage kept and is his baby. It has only seen rain a few times. I want to use it for our getaway car and put "Just Married" on the back. He was completely fine with the idea until he talked to his parents about it. They said since we will be drinking they don't think it's a good idea. I told him I don't plan on getting wasted and he said he doesn't either but he also wants to make sure nothing happens to his car. I wanted to use it as part of my "Something Blue" since its sonic blue. What is everyone else doing after they leave the reception? Our hotel we are staying at after the reception is about 10-15 minutes away. I need some opinions please....

We will be driving after the wedding. who gets smashed at their own wedding? my sister did and passed out in the hallway. it was awful. i'd say its FH's call, not his parents. if he knows hes driving, he will drink accordingly, take time to sober up, eat food etc.

We're going to have a '69 Mustang in bright blue for our getaway car! We're in almost the same situation. Our solution is going to be to have one of the underage teenagers in our family "chauffeur" us to the hotel. We'll have a different car waiting for them at the hotel to take back. I like the idea of us with the top down and waving from the back seat anyway! Hope this helps. Smiley smile

We'll have FH's truck- 2011 Dodge, crew cab, full bed, lifted with 35s. It's a really sharp looking truck that we both really like. We are staying at the venue the night of so the only time we'll be going anywhere in it is right after the ceremony for around the block.

ETA: FH would be completely jealous of your '69 Mustang Leah!

I know he's not planning on getting wasted but even with a few drinks I don't know if we should. He said he knows how his friends are with giving him drinks and he doesn't want to risk it. I suggested we can leave and go around the block then have his dad drive his car back. That would be probably the only person he would trust driving it. I just have always had that in my mind and now he's trying to back out by what his parents are persuading him to do .

We FINALLY got rid of our 05 MUSTANG... really, I HATED it! Felt like I was riding a skateboard down the road! We are taking a limo to the ceremony and from the ceremony to the reception, but will probably take our own Kia Sorento home. Might have a designated driver, because fw and I rarely drink and have a low tolerance. We both refuse to drink and drive though. Maybe his mother or father can be your designated driver, since they are the ones with the issue.

I think if you trust one of you will not have to much to drink, then go for it! Or at least bring it to the venue for great photo ops.

FH and I are hiring a town car to drop us off at the hotel for $90. We don't know what the night has in store and don't want to risk being too smashed to drive.

We are driving my '07 Dodge Nitro to the hotel after the reception. A limo from ceremony to reception.

Erin- see if his dad would drive you in it to the hotel. Or go with your suggestion.

We aren't planning on getting drunk at our reception. We'll only be having a couple of drinks. If you're worried about driving with a few drinks in you, have someone lined up to be your DD to drive you to the hotel.

Honestly, by the time we left our reception there wasnt many people left to watch us leave (granted, we walked from our huge outdoor tent to the hotel, like 150 yards), but we stayed and partied til the end.

It's something to consider and maybe use the mustang to get from the ceremony to reception. That way you can include it with out risking drinking and driving.

And, I've only been to one wedding where they had a grand exit that everyone watched.

FH and I were going to drive ourselves back to our house after the reception (about a 50 minute drive), but my family finally convinced that we should be safe and not sorry. So I called over 20 transportation companies, and we hare having a Mercedes takes us home (about 38 miles, and they are charging us $100 <-- includes tip).

We're having a 194(3?) Ford Model T courtesy of my grandpa. Our hotel is only 4 miles from the venue so he's allowing us to use his baby for pictures and as the getaway car at the end of the night. FH and I will definitely be taking it easy on the drinks that night.

KaylaP, my sister just got an '07 Dodge Nitro over the weekend!

From the reception, FH will drive us to dinner in his truck (so his guys can decorate it since that's the vehicle we'll be taking OOT for our honeymoon since it is a 4x4 and we're going up to the snow). Nothing special. We'll probably drop off the car at home and have someone drive us to the after party and we'll cab it home if we don't get a ride from someone (probably will have a nondrinker or two crashing at our house that night).

The way you describe the car as his baby, is he even comfortable leaving it at the hotel overnight? If it is alway garaged and has hardly seen rain, I would be surprised if leaving it in the hotel lot overnight is okay.

My fh and I will be hiring someone to drive us to the hotel. While I don't want to get smashed, I also don't want to be worrying all night and avoiding toasts just so I can drive. I am a firm believer that you shouldn't drink and drive. Even a few drinks can put you over the legal limit.

I thought about driving my fh's track car. Also blue. It would be fun but not worth it. We would rather drink and not have to worry about driving.

I have a Jeep Liberty so pretty much a Nitro. I love that thing. LOL

My FH would be SO jealous of these Mustangs. He sold his not long ago and misses it pretty bad. We are leaving in his 1968 Ford Galaxie or our Jeep rock crawler. That's his call so I may not know until we go to leave the reception. We don't drink and are having a dry wedding (reception is at the church too so no option for drinking there) so no worries about drinking. I certainly wouldn't want to risk it in that car either. But I would love to see picture of them.

We will probably be taking FH's truck which is a quad cab Cummins. It's his baby, other than the Harley, which we won't be leaving on. lol

Natalie, Good point on leaving it at the hotel. He will not go for that. Hopefully his dad will drive it back to his house and keep it there in the garage. I'm working on it! I guess I still have time until our May wedding. Smiley smile FH brought it up today so that's why I wanted some opinions
