Getting legally married before the wedding?

So my fiancé is currently away with the army and we've talked about it and we're thinking of just driving to a courthouse and getting the papers signed the day he comes back, we're just super eager to get everything offical. We're going to keep out actual wedding in January and just renew or vows or something then and party with our friends and family.
But it'll only be a month until our wedding and I'm not sure about it, but I'm just so keen to finally be his wife and we've missed each other so much its been unbearable.
What's your opinion on this?

I understand wanting to get married soon. FH and I live together and I would still marry him today if I could. But at one month away that seems “pointless” to me tbh.

Oh we aren't cancelling the wedding. We would still have the wedding and treat it as our wedding, so refunds needed

Wow, I'm shocked by the negative responses on here. It's your life and your partnership, and it's not the 1800's where your "purity" is on the line (unless you're very religious).

We're getting legally married in a few weeks for 2019 tax purposes. The only other detail I'll include is that my partner and I have been together for 12 years, so we're really, truly sure we're all in on the marriage idea. It sounds like the two of you are also wanting the legal component for logistical reasons, too, so, if you haven't already I say go for it!

I need his tricare after an accident and the BAS payments which go through instantly are going to pay off the last of the wedding avoiding any more debt

I realized I missed some of your earlier clarifications and updated my comment! I'm glad to hear you're not under the mistaken impression that love is more meaningful only after the ink has dried. =)

My fiance and I are actually taking about doing this because even tho he is a US citizen and has been for 47 yrs (father is a full bird colonel) he was born abroad and it will be way past our wedding date before his replacement documents arrive. In our home state we need birth certificates for marriage license but not across state lines...weird i know!

Is there any real reason to not make legal vows at the exact time you are ready to do so? None. Do it when you both feel it's right. Waiting for venue availability and a crowd of your closest is externally driven societal bs, which should not define your deepest union. And reply #1 is off, there is no reasonable etiquette rule stating that others need to know you've already made legal vows. None. Cingratulations on finding your true love ❤

Just wait, if you can. EVERY bride and groom goes through the "I can't wait any longer" dance. It's a perfectly normal thing to feel. Unless there is some emergency that necessitates getting official this second, don't rush.
