Getting make up during covid

Liz, on September 23, 2020 at 12:43 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
Beyond frustrated. I'm not a huge makeup and hair person to begin with so when COVID came up and masks being recommended and required I just stopped wearing makeup last March. We scheduled our engagement photos for 3 weeks from now so we could get the fall colors. I was planning on doing my own makeup for the shoot. I just tried my makeup that I do own and realized it's way too light for the tan I currently have in addition to just being old. I also just realized that all the makeup counters testers are no longer available due to COVID. How am I supposed to get makeup that will match my face without having testers available?? I did hire a professional HAMU for the wedding next year and reached out to her to see if she could do it, but she's not available that day.

For those of you who are doing your own, how are you able to get the right makeup right now!?

You can probably talk to them to put some foundation on a q-tip to give to you. When I went for my wedding day perfume they would at least spray extra on the paper slips to give to me to rub on my skin. I would go to a place like MAC or Sephora and they may actually do it for you during this time.

Sephora isn’t letting you try products or even touch packages (at least in NorCal) right now. That said I am in a similar place and just went to the store to get see colors in person, held some up to my skin (accepting the scolding!) and picked a best guess. The good thing is Sephora will take back anything you don’t like, so start now and if you have to do a couple tries to match you have time.

I recommend you hire a different makeup artist. I found mine just two weeks out by using thumbtack. Or you can go makeup free.

If you go to a makeup place, they should be able to match your coloring. That’s what they do!

I love getting my makeup done. You can bring inspiration pics to show what you want your makeup to look like. I suggest doing a trial, being the pics, and see how they do. Someone people glam on the makeup, but some go for a natural look. I suggest looking at local places, looking at their online albums, and see their work beforehand.

WHOOPS, my bad girl, I thought I was posting on another makeup post! Sorry for the multiple responses, I can’t delete the wrong one! I still say go to a shop to have them match you 😉😂

I went to Ulta and was really surprised at how well they were able to match my foundation (which I never wore until recently to get my skin used to it before the wedding.) I’m not sure if it’s all Ultas but she said if it didn’t match that I could bring it back and exchange it for free since I wasn’t able to try it before purchasing. They actually matched me perfectly. I think any experienced makeup store can help with matching.
