Getting makeup and hair done for Engagement photos

MelisM, on February 14, 2018 at 12:20 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 38

I'm debating if I should get my makeup and hair done (loose curls nothing crazy) for our engagement photos. We will be using a photo from the shoot for the STDs, and we will be putting some photos up on our wedding website.

What did you do?

I did my hair and makeup myself for our engagement photos, but I do full glam makeup on myself regularly so it wasn't a big deal for me. Here's what I did on myself for mine. This is also the photo we used for our Save The Dates. I say, if you are confident in your hair and makeup skills, do it yourself. If not, then yes I would get it professionally done because you are putting one of those photos on your STDs that you are going to send out to lots of friends and family.

I am getting it done. It is honestly easier for me to just pay a professional than try to do it myself because I am pretty bad at it. What is the best option for you?

I paid for a professional. Honestly that was faster and was good trial run on the artists skills.

I'm good at my every day makeup but I think I want to be a little more glammed up since we will be using the photos. Plus I don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't come out like I would want it to if I do it myself.. Thank you for your input. Definitely leaning more towards a professional.

I also paid a professional. I went to the MAC counter at the mall and got a full face. I suck at makeup and i usually only wear it lightly. So since these pictures are going to be around forever and sent out i decided to make it special. So glad i did the pictures look amazing and gave me added confidence. You just feel better when you look pretty you know.

I did my own hair but got my makeup done at Sephora and I’m so glad I did. You really need more makeup than what you would wear on a typical day to show up in photographs.

I did my hair and makeup my self and I think it was perfectly fine. I was told by many many people on here and my photographer said I should. Which I did try. I went to Shepora and got $100 worth of makeup and had someone apply it for me. I did a trail to make sure that it looked good and thank god I did. The makeup irradiated my eyes, made them red, puffy and very dry. So I am not sure if I am allergic or I am just not use to makeup because I only wear eyeliner and mascara all the time.

This one is the best to see my face. But I think it turned out great. Now just time to figure what to do for the wedding!

I got my makeup done but not my hair.

I wound up not really loving my makeup but I left it on because it was 75.00 plus tip. It was probably my fault though because I went to the MUA with no real direction, I just showed her a pic of my dress and let her do whatever. So my advice would be to have some semblance of an idea on how you want to look,

I was on the fence too but ultimately decided to get my hair and makeup done. I went to dry bar for my hair and was so happy with it! I ended up not really loving my makeup but was able to blend/ touch it up on my own so it looked ok in the end. Still probably would have done my own makeup though if I were to go back and do it again.

I did my hair and makeup myself, but I've been doing my own makeup since I was like 15 years old. My mom taught me young, when I did musical theater and such. If you're not comfortable doing your own, I would get it done professionally. Or, go to a Sephora or Ulta and have them show you a certain style!

This is the best picture of my face.

My very close friend (and hopefully MOH when I finally get around to asking!) does makeup so I asked her if she would do mine for my engagement session.

I plan on doing my own hair though.

I did my own hair but I had my makeup done. I really wanted to make sure my skin looked amazing since it’s something I feel self concious about. I knew if I had a professional do it I would feel much more confident and relaxed in the pictures. If it is within your budget I would definitely recommend at least getting your makeup done.

I had my makeup and hair done for my engagement photos. It only made sense to me since the photos were taken professionally, and so I wanted to look my best. I had my hair and makeup done by the people I hired for my wedding, so I got to see how they worked together.

I did my own for our actual engagements, where there was a professional photographer but I do full glam makeup often.

I got my makeup done for the session with my wedding photographer. My makeup and hair was stunning and well worth it. I’m really glad I paid the extra money for it, as someone who is incredible comfortable with makeup. Use it as your trial. That’s what I did.
I was on the fence about getting my makeup done for the wedding but seeing the photos, it looked so great.

I got my hair and makeup done by professionals. I am horrible at hair and makeup and didn’t want to look like a troll. I used the same salon providing my wedding day hair and makeup so it gave me another opportunity for me to use them and made sure I chose the right place.

I got my hair done at Drybar and got my makeup done at Sephora; Sephora does mini makeovers where it’s free if you spend $50 on makeup. Which, honestly, wasn’t that hard for me. I needed new foundation and mascara and fell in love with the lipstick they used for me those days.

I went to Ulta for my hair and makeup (I think $90 total plus tip). I am not talented in that area, and wanted to make sure my hair stayed in place since the photos were outdoors in July. It was the first time in a really long time that I had my makeup done, so it gave me an idea of how to give more direction for my wedding - really learning what I do and don't like on myself.

I think it will be too soon to do my wedding trial but I might go to Sephora and do the thing where they make you over and you buy $50 (or whatever it is) of product. Need to look up the details but it's something like that, and since I buy my stuff there anyway it basically doesn't cost anything.

I didn't know Sephora even did that. I will have to check it out.
