Getting married after dark?

Ashley, on October 4, 2017 at 3:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

After struggling to figure out a day that works with everyone and our budget we finally settled on a day. Only problem now is the fact that the venue is booked that morning and the earliest we can set up will be 3:30 with our ceremony at 5:30. Totally fine except it's in December and it'll be sunset around 4:30ish.

They have lighting outside and everything but I'm afraid I'm going to freeze and we won't get any good pictures.

If we move it inside we'll have the reception on one side and the wedding on the other.

Thoughts?

I would do the ceremony inside if it were after sunset.

I'm don't where you're located, but there are very few places where it is a comfortable enough temperature in December after sundown that I want to be outside for longer than it takes to scurry from my car to the building.

Are you worries about pictures or ceremony site? If you're worried about pictures, I would suggest a first look and find cool places not at the venue site. Your photographer should be able to get a cool night shots. If it's ceremony location, have it inside. Anything under 65 is too cold for outdoors

I'd definitely be concerned about pictures. Maybe you could do first look?

For the ceremony, I think there's a lot of lighting decorations you can do that would look really unique and beautiful. A candlelit feel could be really nice.

Ceremony and reception should both be inside.

You can do a first look during the day for photos. If it's cold out, get a faux fur wrap or cape.

My wedding is Dec 16th and the ceremony time is 6:30pm (so way after sundown), however the ceremony is in a covered pavillion with closed clear walls (so you can see the garden looking like outside) and heated. I wanted the nighttime ceremony though so candles and christmas lights in the garden would show up. But we are doing all our pictures before the ceremony while it is still light outside. Could you tent your ceremony so you could have heat?

I think this would all depend on your location and knowing temperature patterns for the area.

    Thanks for all your ideas!

I live in Southern California so it could be doable outside but I think just to be safe I may have to have it inside.

We are doing our ceremony indoors, after dark. We are actually doing everything by candle light and us no that as kind of the tone of everything. We found a photographer who specializes in night shots (highly recommend looking for someone who does this if you go with the night theme). Go with it, be creative with lighting and have the wedding you want!

We are doing a night time wedding. Our theme is Halloween chic though and it is on the 27th of October. Kinda in the theme of things. We are just making sure we have enough lighting going on. Up lighting, theme lighting. I would say, just make sure your photographer gets in on it and they can usually tell you what you need. The venue as well, I am sure they have done PM weddings. Most places have an event coordinator to assist with this kind of thing. A lot of venues also have lights you can use.

Pictures and temperature would be 2 big concerns here. Can you do pictures much earlier in the day?
