Getting Married at a State Park

CM1108, on January 27, 2018 at 11:39 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16
Hello! We are getting married at a local state park and booked a dining hall for the reception. Its not the best looking hall to say the least. We cannot attach anything to walls with nails and we aren't pipe and drape people. You can see into directly into the kitchen. The hall has great ceiling beams but we will need to try and spruse of the place. Any suggestions?

It may be a bit plain but you can make it look very cute! I would try to hang some string lights between the beams and add a few floral arrangements maybe near the doors. Combined with your table centerpieces it wont need much! As for the kitchen, are there signs or table assignments you can put on the counter to distract from whats behind them? Or can you have your bar setup? You’ll also get alot more character with your tables in the room and people probably wont notice the things you do.

I actually think it's really cute! I agree with the string lights suggestion. I think setting up the kitchen counter as a bar will fix that. And then your table decor will add all the rest of the beauty you need. Yay fellow state park bride!

You can do lots of stuff! Those beams make a magnificent backdrop. You could do hanging paper lanterns, hanging candles, greenery, in a variety of different styles for string lights.

I'm also having my wedding at a state park and similar rules apply. These are photos from a prior wedding at the venue I am using. I'm pretty sure they just tied the lanterns to the rafters. You could rent a screen to cover the kitchen. I think they are $45 to rent here.

Lights and lanterns would be a gorgeous addition. Also, just curious because both of my brothers got married in state parks, and, at least in Georgia, you can't have any alcohol whatsoever. Is that true where you live, too?

Are you allowed to use command hooks/strips and or museum putty to hang things? That would be a huge help for you.

We are permitted to serve alcohol in NC, but they can't go outside with it.

I find this stuff so interesting. It all varies so much between states lol. Sorry. You'll have to update us with how you pull it all together!

I'm feeling lazy so rather than repeat my comments, I will refer you to this thread.

Although your venue is a little more rustic, I immediately thought of the other venue, the green walls perhaps.

One way to add some ceiling interest is to use those beams to support branches. You can even wind the branches with battery operated lights that come with a remote control before you put them up. That makes it so easy to just thread the branches up through the beams and not have to struggle with the lighting.

I too, would set screens up on the counter that opens into the kitchen. You can make them yourself with louvered closet doors you can get free off Craigslist. You simply hinge them together. You can leave them rustic as is, or spray paint them. They also look great as a display area for family pics.

What great ideas!!! Thank you guys!!!

The rule at the state park is no public consumption or display of alcohol but we can have it in the dining hall. My thoughts were to get a bunch of camping thermos

or steel water bottles so its concealed should anyone go outside the dining hall. Kind of like this....I love this idea!!!

Garlands of greenery would be really pretty. You could also place large ferns near the kitchen to pull the eye away from the area. The ferns would also work nice with the state park locale.

Command hooks and Command strips could be very helpful. Look at their website for all the products they have that might be helpful!

Do you have access to this building with enough time to do a transformation?

My mother had this. She purchased lattice that lay in front of the walls and we decorated with faux greenery flowers and lights.

Are you kidding? This place is such a wonderful blank canvas. No ridiculous carpet or décor on the walls. You can customize this and make it your own. Oh, I could go nuts in this place! Too many places have horrible carpet, terrible light fixtures, artwork that is hideous. This is awesome...you can do any theme with this room as it is so very neutral. Some say boring and bare...I say, ready for my own take on it!
