Getting married during the height of the holiday season - when to send save the dates?

Julia, on July 14, 2021 at 10:27 PM Posted in Planning 1 6

Recently engaged (less than a month!) but both my fiance and I are both planners by nature so we've already nailed down our date and venue. We're getting married on December 10, 2022, which is smack dab in the middle of the holiday season. I've been reading that it's common practice to send save the dates 6 - 8 months before the wedding, but given the date of ours - wondering if we should send them closer to the 8/9 month range? December gets busy fast for so many people and while I know those who want to be at our wedding will come no matter what, I'd like to ensure we're giving our guests ample time to make plans/arrangements.

Does anyone have experience with December weddings and a timeline of sending communications (save the date, invitations, etc)?

Thank you!!!

10-12 months, same as you would for any other time. Most people don’t know their final schedule before 4 weeks anyway.

I’d definitely send save the dates 10-11 months out. We’re October, which is peak wedding season here, so we sent save the dates ten months out, our invites are going out two months out, and RSVP’s will be due one month out! Hope that helps!

I think you'd be fine sending save-the-dates 8 months in advance - while your date is in the midst of holiday season, it's not peak wedding season and most holiday parties won't be planned that far in advance.

For save-the-dates, I don't think you need some special timeline. When it comes time for invitations maybe you'll want to do those a bit earlier?

As long as you send save the dates with several months notice, send invites at the standard 6-8 weeks.
