Getting married in a different county than i live in?

Shelby, on April 6, 2019 at 8:40 PM Posted in Planning 6 8
I live in Sacramento, CA but we wanted to get married in Los Angeles, CA. Do we need to get the license in Sacramento or does it not matter in CA can we get married in whatever county we want and have it still count?

In California the license is good in any county.

Any county is fine. We got ours in LA County, and got married in San Diego county and mailed it in.

    Usually marriage licenses are statewide.

Normally marriage licenses are statewide. Look at the Sacramento and LA counties’ government website for more info.

I live in the Sacramento area as well! In California the license can be used in any county. We got married in Sonoma but got our license in Placer county. The county recorder's office in both Sacramento and Placer county are very nice and always answer the phone (my first marriage was in Sacramento). Give them a call for all your marriage license questions.

Yes! However, you should apply for your marriage license in the county that you live in, not the county that you're getting married in (assuming both counties are in Michigan).
