Getting married in our church

Tamera, on August 20, 2019 at 12:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9
We are meeting with our pastor this week to get "approval" to get married at our church. We are not officially members, so they are needing to make an exception for us. I'm super nervous. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I was just in this situation!! We moved across the country, so weren’t members of the church at the time. We needed to get a Permission Letter from our priest back home, but he basically refused to sign it (and wasn’t very nice about it either. 😒😒) Needless to say, we joined the church we’re getting married at, and all is well.

We had to get a letter from the church we attend where we live in order to get married in the church where H's family (including himself!) Are registered members. Just to prove we do go there.

We are not members of the church we are getting married in.
I don't practice, and my fiancée had to get a letter from his family church in another city to get married in the church we chose. His family church is super small so we couldn't get married there.

We’re not members of the church we’re getting married in. When we initially met with the priest, he just asked for a donation and it wasn’t until last week that he asked us if we would like to join after the wedding, but we didn’t even give an answer then.

We tried to become members, but were denied since we are already living together. We are hoping that they will be ok with it, since we plan to become members after we get married.

No way?! I read about priests denying to marry a couple based on that (FH and I have also been living together), but never about being denied church membership.. I’m sorry that happened to you. 🙁

Hopefully you have better luck getting “approval” from your pastor. I think as long as you actively went to his church, you’ll be okay. As another poster said, it’s basically proof of that you’re practicing elsewhere.

This is my personal opinion... if you need "approval" to get married in the church you have chosen.. you don't need to get married in that church. If you are not "officially members". Why did you choose this venue? Just wondering.

This is the church that is near our house that we started attending when we moved there. We have been attending for over a year and we really love everything about it, and want to become members and raise our family in that church. It is a baptist church, and they have certain values that they uphold for their members, which normally is a great thing, but has become a small roadblock in this situation.

If they won’t even let you become members because you live together, I doubt they’d marry you there for the same reason.
