Getting Married "naked"

We're getting married in the woods and I just love the concept of going super minimalist with my look. No shoes, no makeup and barely any jewelry. I really love this dress so much but I'm worried it might be a bit too much (or rather a bit too little!) for some of the guests lol. What do you think? ...

I guess I was just hoping for a super raw stripped-back look

That's understandable, but might be uncomfortable. Maybe set aside some of your budget to buy some flip flops (not sure where to get them in bulk, but try to get multiple sizes), that way they can choose to partake in being barefoot, but they also have the option to wear footwear.

As a guest or bridesmaid, I would not feel comfortable wearing any part or combination of that outfit. But as a guest or bridesmaid, I would never ever judge a bride if she chose to wear it herself, which is obviously an unpopular opinion.

Interesting! What's the minimum you'd feel comfortable with personally?

That's a hard no from me. I'd never risk getting splinters, tetanus, or other infections for someone else. You can go barefoot in your boho dress, but I'd recommend a beach that can be comber through for sharp objects.

Minimum meaning what exactly? That part still is not clear. Let your bridesmaids and guests wear what they are comfortable with. Don’t force or pressure your preferences on anyone. If you want to go without makeup, nail polish, professional hair products, a fancy dress, then you do that for yourself. It is not appropriate to ask that of your bridesmaids or guests at all.

Are the groomsmen required to dress in a similar way?

You can do that for yourself. You just can’t force it on your guests, and there are some practical considerations to think about. Sometimes we get caught up in the idea of something and need someone on the outside to point out all the practical considerations we’re missing!

For myself, I wouldn’t go barefoot OR in flip flops because I have arthritis in my feet and need some support. I don’t even go barefoot inside my own house. That’s why asking that of your guests is a lot.

I will agree with previous statements - to me, this feels more like an inexpensive beach coverup than a wedding dress. However, if you love it and feel beautiful in it, then that's all that matters. If you are wanting something that is more bridal, but is also a nude illusion dress, there are tons of beautiful options out there!

As far as going barefoot, I agree with others that you probably don't want to do that. I know it sounds earthy and hip, but the reality is you're going to be in pain walking on rough surfaces. Have you ever been walking barefoot outside and stepped on a small pebble? It instantly makes you falter in your gait (it almost looks like you twisted your ankle). I don't think jerking and hobbling down the aisle is the look you're going for LOL I would either wear minimal nude sandals, or lay down rugs to form an aisle and protect your feet. (P.S. rug aisles in the woods are actually quite beautiful!)

As far as wedding party attire... they could definitely wear something minimalistic to match the vibe and formality of the wedding. But I would consult with them on what they would feel comfortable in. Definitely do not push them to wear anything too sheer, revealing, etc. Respects their boundaries and preferences, and find something they all love and feel comfortable in.

As far as guest attire.... you should not be dictating that. Let your guests dress themselves in whatever they want.

Congrats on the engagement! I think a forest wedding is super cool, and there are definitely ways to do it where everyone feels comfortable.

Go for it! Don’t invite anyone that doesn’t know how you roll.

You may have missed the part where she wants her wedding party and all of her guests to come similarly attired, ie no makeup, little or no jewelry. no shoes, skimpy outfit. Inviting people who are polite enough to refrain from negative comments is much different than imposing this dress code on guests.
