Getting ready - does this make sense?

Kayla, on April 8, 2021 at 3:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

Our wedding is in Kaneohe, Hawaii. There is only one hotel in that town, and it's a resort. But for the hotel block, we chose a hotel in Waikiki (about 30 mins from the venue). The reason we chose Waikiki is that most of our guests are coming from out of state and we wanted to keep costs as low as possible for them. Also, most visitors like to stay in Waikiki for the touristy stuff. Because the hotel is kind of far from the venue, we are providing a free bus to/from.

My husband and I are planning to stay at the Kaneohe resort the night of the wedding. So my original plan was to have a sleepover with my girls the night before the wedding at the Kaneohe resort. This way, we would not have to worry about getting to the area the morning of and being late. Then we would wake up and uber over to the venue and get ready at the venue's bridal suite. After the wedding, my husband and I would use that same room at the resort. My husband and his grooms people would meet at that same room to get ready but my girls and I would already be at the bridal suite. But I just realized the bridal suite has no natural light and it's probably not ideal for makeup.

So now I'm wondering... what if my girls and I do HMU at the Kaneohe resort, then uber to the venue to get dressed. Later, my husband and his grooms people would arrive at the resort for their getting ready time. Photographer would do getting ready shots of them at the resort, and us at the venue.

I know I might be overthinking this, but my brain hurts from thinking of all the logistical possibilities! And I've never heard of both parties using the same room so I'm wondering if it could work. I figure the guys get ready much later so it's not like they are going to be waiting on us to get out of there. My husband does have 2 grooms ladies that are welcome to get hair and makeup with us, but I'm not sure if they will.

I think you may be overthinking it a little. First ask your MUA what they would suggest as far as lighting goes for makeup application. Most MUA have those halo ring lights that they bring with them so that they can see better. Most venues and bridal suites don't have large windows for natural light, so I wouldn't worry about that too much honestly.

I think the original you plan you have is fine! I'd much rather get hair and makeup done in the same place I'm getting ready at. All you have to do when you wake up is get in the uber, then your final destination is where you get ready. It just seems simpler that way.

I'm also a little confused at the last part. Are the groom and his party getting ready at the same room you're staying in at the hotel?? or are they using the bridal suite??

I agree with Shelly - the natural light problem should actually be a pretty easy fix!

I'd also think about how big the suites are in each location! Is there plenty of room for all of you getting your hair & makeup done? Are there multiple chairs and lots of outlets?? That always seems to be the scramble when I'm a bridesmaid!
