Definitely nice to have, but not necessary. I think it is fun to treat your bridesmaids since they are standing by you on such a special day, and the pictures will look nice if you are all coordinating.

Well this is where I insert my "spoiled" girl opinion. Is it a necessity? No. But since I'm not doing wedding favors for my guests, I feel as though this would be the least I could do for the girls. And quite frankly, the pictures are really important to me. (Pictures last forever... Even though the gifts might not.) So - I'll just say it - for me, they are a need to have!

Nice to have if wanted. Not doing getting ready pictures. We have cell phones if we want to do hair or makeup selfies. Saving myself 1k in professional pics of posed getting ready pictures... 🙄.
