Getting Ready Photos

Nicole, on January 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

How long do getting ready photos typically take? I'm not sure when I should have our photographers start. I was thinking 12pm, take photos for an hour, then leave for the church which is a 30 min drive at 1:20pm ish and our ceremony starts at 2pm. I have 6 ladies in my bridal party, and I would also want some photos with my parents before heading to the church. I'm just worried with all the commotion that the girls won't all be ready by the time we have to leave. And also, I don't necessarily care for photos of us having our hair & makeup done, but I got them these pretty robes that I want photos of with all of us together. Then after those photos, they would have to put on their dresses and I would have to put my dress on etc.

If all you want is posed photos of you guys in your robes, it will literally take 2 minutes. Photos of you getting into your dress, maybe 10 minutes. Parent photos, 10 minutes.

I went backwards from when I was planning to have them leave the reception based on how long I have them that day. Our photographer will get to my getting ready location earlier than needed (11am but I won’t be getting in my dress until 1). I assumed she could use this time to take detail shots in addition to getting ready photos.

Getting ready photos are typically staged. Depending on how many shots you want and if you have one or two photographers, it’ll probably take 10-20 minute la max for getting ready photos. You can stage them at the venue or wherever you’re getting ready.

My photographer also recommending staging the getting ready photos otherwise you are paying for a lot of wasted time. Is there somewhere at the venue you can take a few photos? then you don't have to pay your photographer to drive to different locations.

Ours took about 1.5-2 hours. We did "getting ready" ones finalizing hair & makeup, details of my dress & accessories, posed ones with a champagne toast, a scotch toast for the groomsmen, and a first look with my dad.
