Getting Ready Schedule for an Afternoon Wedding

Jessica, on December 31, 2021 at 1:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
If you’ve had an afternoon wedding (with a ceremony starting around 11/11:30am), what was it like for you and your bridesmaids to get ready? I’ve embraced the reality of having an early start to the day 😆 I would just hate for people to feel rushed in the process.
For my wedding I’ll have 4 bridesmaids, and I’d like to have it where I could pay to have their makeup done. I’m not picky on the style of makeup, but it be one less thing for them to do as a gift from me.

It would definitely be an early start to the day (especially if you're doing a first look), though one thing you could do to help with that is hire two hairstylists and two makeup artists, so that it takes less time to get through everyone? That way, you wouldn't have to get up as early. Plus, mimosas and breakfast could help make the early morning start time a little easier!

If it is in your budget, paying for your BMs hair and make up is a wonderful gesture! We are doing the same thing. I wanted to make sure this was as fun, stress-free, and inexpensive as possible for our wedding party! If you are going to have professional hair and make up done for yourself and all of your bridesmaids, you might want to consider hiring multiple hairdressers and make up artists. Most people will tell you to plan on having a minimum of one hour for each girl. That means you would have to start hair & makeup at 5AM, and that would allow you one hour for photos prior to your wedding (assuming everything goes smoothly, no one is laid, hair and make up is done on time, and there is no travel required between where you are having HMU done and where the ceremony is). If you have multiple artists, you can cut that time in half.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Yes to breakfast and mimosas. I love that idea. And I don’t know why I hadn’t considered having multiple artists! It’s looking like they might be the best option. Thank you so much!

One thing I’m so thankful for is that our venue is 2 blocks from a new hotel. Whether we get ready there or on site, we’re still extremely close!
It looks like multiple makeup artists is the way to go 🙏🏽 Out of curiosity, do you know if it’s likely I’ll need to reach out to two artists separately? Or should I be able to ask the one I’ve reached out to if she has a recommendation?

If you have already booked a make up artist, I would definitely speak with her about hiring a second artist. If she works for a company, she could likely have another artist that works with them join in. If she is an independent artist, she may know other artists in the Industry who do good work and who she would prefer to work with. If you have already signed a contract with her though, it may be tricky because you would no longer be requiring as many services from her, and that would affect her pay. So a lot of this really depends on whether you have already hired and signed a contract with another artist.

I have become the queen of quote-gathering in this planning process 😆 so that’s as far as I’ve gotten with the makeup artist thus far. There’s some flexibility for now to figure things out.

Perfect!! Then yes, I would reach out to your favorite artist(s) and hairstylist(s) and ask them about having second artists work with them, due to the early schedule.
