Getting Ready

Lyndsey , on July 30, 2019 at 1:31 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16
Hey ladies,

Do you think it’s unreasonable to have your bridesmaids split the cost of a hotel room as well as pay for their own hair and makeup? I wanted to have all of the girls stay together so the hair and makeup artist can come to one place, but I also don’t want my girls to be spending an extravagant amount just because it’s my day. I’d like to be courteous and kind to everyone.

I think both of those things should be an option. Saying you guys want to stay in the hotel room, this is how much it will be. If not it’s totally fine to find your own lodging just be at the getting ready place by this time. And if you would prefer to get your hair and makeup professionally done here’s the price but it’s fine if you would like to do your own.

I agree with PP. Definitely make it optional!

Yes I’d thought the same thing! I don’t mind if the girls go in their own or do the whole hair and makeup thing with me as long as they are ready for the day, I just feel bad about the cost

Do you mean they will be splitting the cost of where hair and makeup will be done? I think if you’re having services done at the hotel they shouldn’t pay for the room unless they’re staying in it. I guess you could then ask them to split the cost of the room among everyone that will be sleeping there? I am having everyone get hair and makeup done in my suite, which of course I’m paying for because I’m staying there! My bridal party made other arrangements at Airbnb’s which is completely fine as they will just come to the hotel in the morning. Their hair is being paid for if they’d like it done but I told them how much makeup was and to let me know if they’d like it done so I can let the HMUA know. It’s super nice to treat your BP to hair and makeup but it’s not a given. And I think they can split the cost of the hotel if they’re staying but if they can’t actually sleep there and this is the place you’ve decided they all have to get ready I would think of it as one of your expenses.

If you are requiring them to get their make up and hair done you should pay for it. Otherwise just mention it as an option

My mom rented the beach house for myself and bridesmaids, but they will be paying for their own hair/makeup (which was a group decision and everyone was on board)

I think it'd be nice if you paid for the hotel room. But I do see how you're having it as an option for them.

I would not have them pay for the hotel unless they were staying in it. Also if they could not get ready there for any reason I would have the hair and makeup artist go to them (as long as they are in one location) and a separate hair and makeup artist come to me at my home

I’d like to but it’s not in my budget to pay for the hotel room unfortunately. Which is why I’m trying to decide if I should even offer it to them but it would be much easier to get ready there

Yes, it's unreasonable. Your bridesmaids don't need to sleep in the same hotel for the HMUA to come the next morning. They can just meet you at your hotel room. If you're already staying at the hotel and expecting to pay the cost of a room, you should just offer it to your friends for free. As far as hair and makeup, if you're requiring them to have it done, the cost is your responsibility.

No, I do not require them to do anything. I’m simply asking if this is an unreasonable option. Thank you.

If they are optional, it's fine. I personally don't have any interest in having a sleepover with brides/bridesmaids and I didn't do it. I like sleeping in my own bed (typically with my husband since he goes to all weddings with me as my date) so I prefer to pay for my own room. I think the getting ready room should be covered by the bride.

I was a bridesmaid once and making it optional was the way to go, some of us could not afford it and even though we would have loved to pitch it for those things, it was still something that can be avoided and stuff.
