Getting ready

Brianna, on January 4, 2022 at 12:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
If my ceremony is at a church and my reception is somewhere else, where would I get ready? Do places normally let you get ready in theirs bridal suit and leave and come back? I’m just thinking for picture purposes of getting ready and everything like that. My house wouldn’t be big enough for the wedding party, myself and then hair dressers.

You could inquire with the church if they have a space for you to get ready in. Many of them have extra rooms they will allow you to use (meeting rooms, Sunday school rooms, even their daycare rooms); but keep in mind they will not be set up like a normal bridal suite would be (full length mirrors, getting ready stations, etc.) so you would have to bring everything you and your wedding party would need to get ready. Another option would be to rent a hotel suite or Airbnb, or to see if you could use someone else’s home that is big enough.

This is what I did. My church has a bridal room but it was small and plain. I didn’t want any pictures there. My venue was fine with me using it to get ready and coming back.
If you’re unsure, it doesn’t hurt to ask

Thank you! I will ask the venue! Our church is very old and doesn’t have anything like that, we just have regular bathrooms and an added on gymnasium room.

I also have separate church and reception locations, but we're staying at a hotel close to our reception venue. My close friends, sisters and mom will be getting ready with me at the hotel (we chose not to have a bridal party/groomsmen, so no bridesmaids), that way our MUA and hair stylists have plenty of space to work and we have space to get ready without being on top of each other. I imagine an AirBnb would also work.

Josie's mention of an AirBnB is a great start, since usually they're more aesthetic for pictures, and will offer plenty of space. If that's the route you decide to go (versus being in a hotel), watch out for additional cleaning/damage fees. Sometimes AirBnBs can end up being more expensive than getting a hotel for a day or two. Also, how many people are in your bridal party? That would also make a difference with how much space you need. Usually makeup artists and hairdressers who work weddings have all of their tools in a set up that's mobile, and don't require as much space as being in a full salon.
