Getting Rejected by Venues?

Hi everyone! After cancelling our wedding, my fiancé and I are trying to plan things again. Our ideas of what we want have drastically changed, originally we were going to invite close to 60 people, now we plan to invite only 35. We live in PA in the Lehigh Valley area. Ideally, we’d like our wedding to be close to home, but we’re running into a lot of roadblocks.

I’ve messaged multiple venues, asking for more information. Each one got back to me straight up saying they wouldn’t do my wedding, that I should consider a larger guest list. I get my hopes up for the next venue to say something different, but so far that’s not the case. This is really disappointing, not everyone wants a big wedding, and one of the venues even had pages on their website saying they are known for their “small, intimate receptions”.
I’m not sure what to do here. We’re not changing our guest count, this is what we’ve decided on. Getting rejected by venues is taking the excitement out of planning. We’ve pretty much exhausted the options in our area and don’t know where to look now. Any ideas?

Aw I’m sorry to hear that! Are there any private estates or Airbnb’s in your area that you can rent? That way guest count may not be too much of an issue.

Unless rules have changed without announcements, Airbnb’s are not currently allowing any weddings anywhere

Not sure if you looked into Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort. They have many different room sizes and i believe are now offering microweddings, not sure of the size for it. I am getting married there next month and they have been amazing to work with.

I've had a few do this because they also have food and beverage minimums, and that amount of people generally can't meet that(one was upfront about that). Also they stand to make more money on a weekend from larger weddings and they don't want to miss out on that(another basically said that).

I just looked elsewhere. If they couldnt accommodate me at a smaller count I didn't reconsider them when my guest count went up.
Don't change your vision. There's museums, libraries, restaurants, parks etc. You will have to get out of the box.

I haven’t thought of that, it’s an interesting idea. I’m not sure our budget would allow for us to rent a huge home. Ideally we don’t want to spend more than $5,000 for the whole wedding. I’ve been looking into tents and they are very pricey!

I did try to research vrbo’s but didn’t find anything in my area. If we had a backyard, we would just do that. We don’t know anyone with that kind of space in their yard either.

I looked at all the parks that are in my general area and at their rules for pavillion rentals. None of them allow amplified music, which is a hard pass for us.

A restaurant with views would be so nice! There is only one place in our area that has that, and they are way out of our budget 😔 we unfortunately don’t know anyone that has a backyard suitable for an event. I have been doing so much research for un-conventional locations and I just can’t find anything.

I love the Lancaster area, I’ve been to a wedding there and it was really nice. Unfortunately it’s nowhere near us, I wish we lived closer.

I even had the local community center turn me down! They said with such a small guest list, we would get lost in their space.

Do any of the schools in the area have venues for an event that they would rent? Maybe a gym, a foyer, a cafeteria, an assembly space?

What about Luchenbach Mill, part of Historical Bethlehem? It's more pricey for a small number of people ($3,500 for a weekend), BUT you'd get to have both the ceremony and reception on site, in a private, unique setting. Plus Hotel Bethlehem and the Hyatt are literally down the street for those out of town guests travelling.

Would you consider a breakfast/brunch reception? I noticed a couple event centers in your area:. Event Center st Blue and Parkview Event Center. They require a minimum of 30 people for brunch (but minimum of 50 for dinner). Plus, brunch is a lot more affordable!

I don't know if anyone suggested this, but what about a firehall. I was a junior firefighter and seen some pretty nice firehalls and some with a beautiful outdoor area.

Oh my gosh that's awful! Sorry to hear that. The entire wedding industry is just greedy as far as I'm concerned. Overcharging and taxing the crap out of everything. Like give me a break you always have plenty of business regardless. Consider a larger guest list? The nerve of people. Like you are going to go into more debt and change your entire wedding just because they I want you to LOL . My wedding is small also only 35 people. But the cost is over $ 200 a person and I definitely don't want that anyone else.... it does take the fun out of things for sure, but don't be discouraged. Circumstances are just pointing you in the direction your perfect place. Don't be concerned about making people travel. My family is traveling to Tennessee. I live in Florida. And we are scattered all over the us including Canada lol. It's your special day people will come to you regardless and if they don't it's their loss. Your day is about you 2. I was gonna say consider a restaurant but it sounds like you have already looked at that. I know Chart House will do a ceremony and a reception sometimes not sure if they are close to you... not sure of your budget, but some large rental homes will allow events, and you can create your own venue there. Will see if I can find a couple to send you :-) best of luck♡♡♡

What about places that are farther away? That might open up your options.

We are also having a small wedding were capping it at 60 looking a an outside area where we can put a tent. But yes finds some parks or some people within your hometown who may know some. I wish both of us luck in finding that space. Please let us know If you did👍🏼❤
