Hi everyone! After cancelling our wedding, my fiancé and I are trying to plan things again. Our ideas of what we want have drastically changed, originally we were going to invite close to 60 people, now we plan to invite only 35. We live in PA in the Lehigh Valley area. Ideally, we’d like our wedding to be close to home, but we’re running into a lot of roadblocks.

I’ve messaged multiple venues, asking for more information. Each one got back to me straight up saying they wouldn’t do my wedding, that I should consider a larger guest list. I get my hopes up for the next venue to say something different, but so far that’s not the case. This is really disappointing, not everyone wants a big wedding, and one of the venues even had pages on their website saying they are known for their “small, intimate receptions”.
I’m not sure what to do here. We’re not changing our guest count, this is what we’ve decided on. Getting rejected by venues is taking the excitement out of planning. We’ve pretty much exhausted the options in our area and don’t know where to look now. Any ideas?

    Hi there!

I have not personally experienced this however, I have read/heard of many venues needing a certain headcount in order to rent the space (which is beyond ridiculous) We also have a smaller guest list (depending on who you ask) we are inviting 80 and expecting around 60-65. When we got engaged we knew exactly where we wanted to have our reception. When we spoke to the coordinator we found out our venue only holds 80 max which made it easy for us. We wanted a smaller guest list so this worked out perfectly!

Our venue is an old historic Taverne (with a fully operational restaurant below) in a ballroom on the second floor. Have you looked into restaurants? I know mine did not have a guest "minimum" I feel like restaurants are more willing to work with you! Plus they are SO much cheaper than renting out your typical wedding "hall".

Also, look into parks! We are having our bridal shower at a beautiful lodge at a park near me- no minimum required. Only cost $325 to rent the whole day. I live in Ohio in an area with huge park systems/national parks in the area and you need many permits ( for instance if you hire any outside vendors, permits are needed) as well as no alcohol- but this may not matter to you.

    Goodluck to you!
