Getting the Food to the Reception

Before we were even engaged, my FH and I decided we wanted chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy at our wedding. None of the caterers in the area would do that for us, so we're going to order party platters from a local chicken restaurant. The problem is that they don't deliver. The place is 30 min away from our venue, so that's at least an hour of driving. I want the food to be as fresh as possible, so I don't want to pick it up before the ceremony. We did hire servers for when the food arrives, but I can't think of a good way to get the food there! It will either have to sit a while under heat lamps, or I'll have to ask someone to go pick it up. I'm worried that could seem offensive.

Has anyone else dealt with getting your own food? Or does anyone have ideas for ways to pick it up?

    Is it Wednesday yet?

Yes, Andreya, it's your wedding, you can do what you want. But if I traveled, got dressed up, bought a gift and invested hours in your wedding to get a happy meal?

    I'd be unhappy.

Oh lawd. Just a simple question, don't need any shade. They should just be glad we left a place on the RSVP for them to specify whether they want a boys or girls toy. I'd hate for one of the guys to end up with a my little pony.

Out of all the weddings I've been to, there either wasn't food or the catered food wasn't very good. We thought it would be fun, and all of our guests are pretty excited. Our wedding is going to be very laid back anyway.

These are the same people who told me I should add chicken on my menu because it's the most crowd-pleasing.

At least @Kristy is on my side! Hahaha I think it's delicious. I hesitate to say it, for fear of having the tacky police come after me, but I'm super pumped about the corn nuggets!

Chicken is one thing. A chicken finger is another, ideally made FROM chicken, but no guarantees.

Well, I had it once, and it was yummy... .But I REALLY don't see how its going to get to your wedding in good shape! its like fast food chicken!

I mean.. its tasty.. I would approve of it and enjoy at a picnic I guess. Not a wedding reception

    Whats your wedding like?

ETA: I also think quarter pounders and mcD's fries are pretty damn tasty ( I know I know....) but I wouldnt serve them at a wedding! except for maybe a midnight snack... Hey now, that might have been a fun idea! lol

..... is there any kind of non-starchy vegetable on this menu at all? Anything green? Salad, sauteed vegetables of some kind.. hell, anything? People who dont eat fried food, vegetarians, or anyone watching their blood sugar are pretty much going to be SOL with this menu.

also, fried food is only good fresh out of the fryer basket. the second it sits, and doubly so when it sits in steam-filled takeout containers, it becomes a soggy, inedible mess. id really rethink this - both the extent of options on the menu, and transporting it that far.

Fried food that isn't "fresh" gets weird. It just does.

Are you sure there is no caterer that can accomplish what you're looking to accomplish?

Anything fried does not sit well, is there a restaurant at the venue? Soggy chicken tenders and corn nuggets would be the worst.

What the heck are your vegetarian, gluten-intolerant or other food-challenged guests supposed to eat? Is there a warming kitchen on-site at your venue, or will you serve the food congealed and cold? Who will run the warming kitchen and serve the food out/maintain safe food temps?

@Kristy, it's like they take cream corn and they fry it. I don't know, they're heavenly.

@Celia, it's real chicken, not processed. We're not having dino nuggets.

@Niki, we're having side salad also, and we've already made accommodations for our vegetarian guests.

Again, just asked a simple question that has since been answered. Sorry y'all, I'm not changing my mind on this.

Is this the only food being served? For some reason I assumed the chicken was just sort of a fun accompaniment to the menu. Are you having anything else for dinner?

Andreya, why the attitude? People have legitimate concerns about your choice of food and whether it will be edible by the time your guests eat it. Any kind of food is really hard to keep warm, especially after a 30 minute trip unless it is stored in proper containers and transported by a CATERER.

For work, I conduct several fundraisers a year where I will buy enough food for 300 people from fast food places. I can tell you, even when it is properly transported, it turns out lukewarm and smelling like plastic or cardboard because that is what they are stored in from fast food places. (disclaimer: I work in a correctional facility so fast food is the only choice they get)

Just an FYI, just because you want it doesn't mean it is properly hosting.

I'm not one to usually criticize food choices, but fast food at a wedding?
