Getting the Food to the Reception

Before we were even engaged, my FH and I decided we wanted chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy at our wedding. None of the caterers in the area would do that for us, so we're going to order party platters from a local chicken restaurant. The problem is that they don't deliver. The place is 30 min away from our venue, so that's at least an hour of driving. I want the food to be as fresh as possible, so I don't want to pick it up before the ceremony. We did hire servers for when the food arrives, but I can't think of a good way to get the food there! It will either have to sit a while under heat lamps, or I'll have to ask someone to go pick it up. I'm worried that could seem offensive.

Has anyone else dealt with getting your own food? Or does anyone have ideas for ways to pick it up?

@Kristy - OMG. It's going to be so fucking gross. I can already imagine the epic heartburn and lower gastrointestinal issues this will cause.

Has anyone even considered that mashed potatoes from a fast food restaurant are going to be instant? I do occasionally like some KFC potatoes, but not at a wedding.

OP, food doesn't have to be "fancy", but it should be served hot. There is no way your food is going to make to the venue & be hot. Even if they pull it all out at the same time - which you know won't happen.

Your wedding will certainly be the talk of the town, but not for the reasons you hope.

Usually I enjoy your posts. You seem like you have fresh, laid back ideas. This though...

1: Do a food truck. that's fun, laid back and you could still get your chicken tenders.

    OR

2: Call around to local (10 min or less) restaurants that DELIVER or caterers for fried chicken. Saying "chicken fingers" sounds childish and therefor they will not take you seriously. You will have an amazing, fun reception without giving your guest food poisoning.

And come on... you have been on this forum long enough. Your sarcastic comments back to posters trying to give genuine advise is what got you snark and "shade".

The amount of shade in this thread is astonishing. Some of yall should be ashamed of yourselves. No bride wants to be told that what SHE wants on HER day is tacky/wrong/etc. If she can find a way to get it there fresh, who cares? If you were her guest, you are presumably there because you are happy for the couple, and want to be there to celebrate their day. The food selection shouldn't matter.

OP...yall do whatever the hell yall want. Its your day. Do your thing.

Helena, no one is mean. On the contrary, they want to make sure that she IS happy and her guests are happy! That's nice!

@Helena - the "shade' came in when OP started getting snippy and butt-hurt because people weren't telling her what she wants to hear. People come here to get tips, input and advice. Telling someone their idea is bad if it is, in fact a bad idea does not constitute "shade." Her idea is bad because she's trying to transport chicken tenders for an hour and then let them sit for lord knows how long before feeding that cold soggy mess to her guests.

We are telling her there is no way to do that. She has no idea either, hence the post.

WE are trying to prevent her from serving disgusting room temp, soggy chicken tenders to her guests.

Hahahaha I love how this turned into a huge thread of attacking my meal choice! I asked a simple question that was answered on the first page. I understand that it's not going to be at its prime freshness, but it will be served as soon as it arrives. Our wedding is outside next to a creek and everyone will be wearing boots. I highly doubt anyone is expecting some fancy ass meal. I've actually been to weddings that served the same thing, and it worked out fine. I've found a service that will deliver it while keeping it hot.

Also, if you got all the way to a wedding and the food wasn't up to your expectation, who cares? You should be there because you love the couple. Supposedly, you're the same women that say you shouldn't have a wedding for the presents, but you should go to a wedding for the food?

I'm happy with my decision. If that makes me tacky, call me tacky.

Andreya- You don't get it. Have fun at your "wedding". I would be shocked if I went to a wedding and received a kids meal. But YOU DO YOU!!! YOU got this!

You shouldn't go to the wedding for the food. But I expect to be properly hosted when I do attend

@Helena "If she can find a way to get it there fresh..." Yes, IF she can find a way to get it there fresh, it's fine. But that is not possible when you are literally picking up food at a fast food restaurant, transporting it half an hour, and setting it up in batches on a buffet table. Well-catered fried chicken, mashed potatoes and appropriate sides? Sign me up, hope I wore a loose dress! Cold fast food? I'm walking out the door and taking my gift with me. I can get better food straight from the source at Chick-fil-A on my way home.

They'll still get soggy even if they're kept hot.

The food choice is not tacky OP. The way you are handling getting it there and served is and its dangerous. I personally would love some fried chicken and potatoes of any variety, add some gravy to that and hell yeah! reread the suggestions. No one suggested changing your dish, just how you were going about it which is, ultimately, what your question was.

OP - your wedding is at an actual event center - http://cypressfallsevents.com/. It's not like you are getting married in the backwoods or something where the Deliverance music plays. Your venue is nice enough to where old ass casual food should not be expected by your guests.

But hey, like you said, it's your wedding. You're the special snowflake bride. So go on girl, you do you.
