Getting the Food to the Reception

Before we were even engaged, my FH and I decided we wanted chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy at our wedding. None of the caterers in the area would do that for us, so we're going to order party platters from a local chicken restaurant. The problem is that they don't deliver. The place is 30 min away from our venue, so that's at least an hour of driving. I want the food to be as fresh as possible, so I don't want to pick it up before the ceremony. We did hire servers for when the food arrives, but I can't think of a good way to get the food there! It will either have to sit a while under heat lamps, or I'll have to ask someone to go pick it up. I'm worried that could seem offensive.

Has anyone else dealt with getting your own food? Or does anyone have ideas for ways to pick it up?

Your meal choice is fast food at your wedding that you have no feasible way of getting there, the only suggestions that could make it happen are a food truck or asking a caterer to make fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy. Both are fine options but you need to have more than that meal as an option. getting it from the local chicken joint is just as bad as calling up McDonalds and ordering 200 McChickens.

There's nothing wrong WITH your food. It's just how you want to get it there,

Hire a caterer. I beg of you.

Andreya...do what you want!!! Sometimes people can be so judgemental on here & it seems like this is one of those cases. If you want chicken fingers & gravy there's nothing wrong with that it's what you & your FH want. Is there a kitchen at your venue? If there is a stove or a convection oven your servers could put the chicken tenders/fingers in the oven to keep them warm. I say enjoy your day!!! Chicken fingers and all!!!

@Swin. - the caterers won't do chicken fingers for an entire wedding reception. Probably because they know that such a large volume of fast food will not turn out well. So basically, she is willing to risk having the food be gross rather than switching her meal plan.

I'll bite. You're doing a tacky thing (since the new rules can't let me call you tacky....) but hey, if I'm wearing boots, it's all fine. Because in theory, your guests love you, and don't care if you show that love like treating them like third graders on a field trip. Because they love you, no matter how little you love them.

And Helena; don't mistake comments for thinking we care. At least my comments. I think it's kind of funny actually.

Thank God DAK showed up. Because in six pages of comments, that's the one that OP will pay attention to.

Idk. maybe im just super sensitive to this because i have a number of guests who have issues with gluten, are diabetic, etc - but i actually think there is a lot wrong with the menu, on top of everything else if thats all she plans to serve. the only option for a lot of people will be a side salad. every single wedding menu should have some kind of filling option that isnt coated in breading and carb-loaded.

There are SO many dietary restrictions that are going to have big issues with that kind of meal - and i say this as someone who is serving chicken parm and lasagna at her wedding and LOVES carbs.

We're doing a pasta station with whole wheat pasta as one of the options, adding an extra veggie side, and a carving station so no matter what, everyone can get a good, filling meal.

OP needs to think of not just what she personally would want to eat, but what will make her guests happy as well. If you love chicken tenders and mashed potatoes that much and want them that badly at your wedding, hey - whatever -- but that cant be ALL you offer.

These could be favors, maybe you could sharpie your name and wedding date on them. They are unisex too.

@Niki - You're right. The pudding are for guest favors that they can take with them.

OP I think chicken strips and mashed potatoes sounds delicious! I would love if I was served that at a wedding attended. It's very original and is something that you both love the idea of. Good luck getting it there! You'll figure it out Smiley smile

Seriously, are the gd chicken fingers the only food being served??? Get a caterer, get a menu, and if you insist on having soggy chicken have it as an at your own risk station. Tell your guests it was delivered xx time ago, and I'm sure they will be able to tell by looking at it that it is not fit for consumption. Then you can have all the chicken bits your heart desires, and your guests can have an actual meal that has been properly prepared, stored and transported.
