Before we were even engaged, my FH and I decided we wanted chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy at our wedding. None of the caterers in the area would do that for us, so we're going to order party platters from a local chicken restaurant. The problem is that they don't deliver. The place is 30 min away from our venue, so that's at least an hour of driving. I want the food to be as fresh as possible, so I don't want to pick it up before the ceremony. We did hire servers for when the food arrives, but I can't think of a good way to get the food there! It will either have to sit a while under heat lamps, or I'll have to ask someone to go pick it up. I'm worried that could seem offensive.

Has anyone else dealt with getting your own food? Or does anyone have ideas for ways to pick it up?

We are renting a hotbox to keep out food hot.

I think it's worth revisiting the food truck idea. At least someone will be preparing food onsite with no travel time so it can sit and get cold.

Ya, she said: "out of all the weddings I've been to, there either wasn't food or the catered food wasn't very good". So, I don't think her frame of reference for weddings is very good. This will be a step up I guess!

I do like the idea of a food truck though or a caterer that can do this meal well. I kind of get the feeling that she doesn't want to spend much money though.

LOL I wiilllllll say... Golden Chick is fucking tasty. So IFFFF it does get there at proper food temp, and its a very casual wedding, and people are used to not having food at weddings... it will definitely be a crowd pleaser lol

She is really painting a poor picture of what weddings look like in the south.

I dont think michelle and i have the same concept of what the term 'hotbox' means...

though granted, i dont doubt that the hotbox im thinking of would make even lukewarm, soggy chicken tenders seem super appetizing..

@Niki - LOL... there is an adult store in a seedy part of Portland that used to be called the Hot Boxx. Now it's called Area 69.

Bea, weddings in the south can run the gamut of super high class to way beyond tacky. I've been to numerous of each kind. Hopefully, mine will be somewhere in the middle.

OP- while I agree the food might not stand up well after 30 minutes, it is your wedding. Ask some of the guests who you are close to what they think. You know your guests the best and the type of opinions they may have.

I do feel many people were pretty rude to you and I didn't think you deserved it. Being honest with your opinion is one thing. Posting memes and outright making fun of you is another. I hope you can look past the rude comments and take the advice that was well intentioned. Some of it was good, in my opinion. Im sure I'll get some comments as well for what I have said, but in following other threads (reddit, offbeat bride, etc). I also understand that many have left this forum because of the comments that people make in judgement/rude/tacky ways.

Good luck with your decision and your day.

If you hire someone to serve you can hire someone to deliver it to you

No asking your guests will not help. They will just go along with it because they don't want to hurt your feelings. Listen to people here, they are being honest.

Get over it, @Deb. As soon as OP started being snarky in response to the suggestions, all gloves were off. This is the internet, if you can't handle honest opinions or even some snark, you are far to sensitive to be here.

Guys, this happened to me. Got dressed up, traveled three hours to central Illinois for a friend's wedding and the food was a buffet of cold KFC and cold mashed potatoes at the reception. It was......... Awful. So awful.

I can handle the snark, but some were downright rude. I read the whole thing. She wasn't snarky at first. She said it was her wedding and she could serve what she wanted. I'm one of the least sensitive people I know. I just feel that just because it's the internet does't mean people have to treat people badly. It's no skin off my back how people treat others, but I will go out of my way to treat people the right way and to make sure the person on the receiving end understands that not everyone is like that. I just don't think hiding behind internet profiles justifies being an asshole to people.

Two things I remember from weddings.

    Was the food good

    Was the fake dry.

Yes people care about these things. Every wedding I went to that's all that stands out to me

I have been to a chicken wedding. It was delivered across the street still hot but it wasn't tenders. It was breast thighs and drum sticks and was damn delicious. The key was it was delivered from a minute away and we immediately ate.

OP - i'm sorry. Golden Chick is gross. It is cheap fast food that doesn't even measure up to KFC or Popeyes (not exactly the gold standard of food quality) - to give you an idea of just how bad of an idea this is.

On an offhand note, I can tell a difference in the quality of the forums after the mass exodus. Just a bunch of petty people looking for validation regardless of how poor their ideas actually are. Forget about proper hosting, forget about etiquette, forget about common decency. It's all about me and my nuggets.

Listen, I get it OP. I think a fantastic southern fried chicken, comfort food menu sounds amazing. Seriously. Hell, we're doing BBQ, so we're outside the norm when it comes to wedding food too. BUT, it needs to be done properly. And properly is not figuring out how to transport it from point A to point B. Please save yourself the disappointment of having spent a bunch of money on lousy, cold food. Think of other options, contact any reputable caterer that you can. I'm sure someone can provide you with what you're looking for. Head somewhere for tenders after the reception.
