Getting the Food to the Reception

Before we were even engaged, my FH and I decided we wanted chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy at our wedding. None of the caterers in the area would do that for us, so we're going to order party platters from a local chicken restaurant. The problem is that they don't deliver. The place is 30 min away from our venue, so that's at least an hour of driving. I want the food to be as fresh as possible, so I don't want to pick it up before the ceremony. We did hire servers for when the food arrives, but I can't think of a good way to get the food there! It will either have to sit a while under heat lamps, or I'll have to ask someone to go pick it up. I'm worried that could seem offensive.

Has anyone else dealt with getting your own food? Or does anyone have ideas for ways to pick it up?

I love cold chicken and food poisoning from being improperly handled/fluctuating temperatures.

OP I wouldn't be able to eat anything at your fast food wedding because of food allergies. But its YOUR wedding, do what YOU want, and make your guests risk severe allergic reactions and food poisoning. People will talk about your wedding for years - for all the wrong reasons.

I went to a wedding that featured KFC. It was in the gym of a legion hall. There were tables but no chairs. The food was cold and it was gross. I hated wasting food but I threw mine out. Congealed chicken and cold limp fries. Warm coleslaw.

We all pretended to the bride and groom that it was that best thing ever.

35-40 min old fried chicken sounds really bad.

I mean this in the nicest way possible. The fast food menu, the logistics of serving this food, it sounds like train wreck. People will talk about you behind your backs for years. They just may not say it to you because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

Do something else. Please. And then stop and get your precious fast food on your way to the hotel that night! You guys can lick gravy off each other or whatever you want!

Serving cold fast food is not being a good host. People will still love you, but they will think you're a moron etc

    I'm dying lol

OP, I really hope you do consider the fact that fast food at a wedding is a terrible idea. I agree with others; find a caterer who can class up your meal selection. Personally, I gave up fast food 3 years ago and haven't given in even once. I wouldn't break that for a wedding. I would starve and be bitter about it, and probably talk mad shit for YEARS. Just saying.

I suggest elf magic. It's quick and the food will be hot and ready in the exact instant you need it.

I'm just leaving this here because vendors were prohibited from weighing in on the "Quizzos" thread (and I have a sneaking suspicion that someone who wants to turn their reception into a Friday game night might be checking out the "cold chicken nuggets/instant mashed potatoes/coagulated gravy," thread). If you think cold, reheated chicken nuggets are a bad idea, follow that up with a trivia game that's made to keep dressed up people in their seats while answering useless trivia questions at a wedding. NOBODY...repeat...NOBODY wants to play Trivial Pursuit at a wedding. Leave your guests alone. Serve them adult beverages, a reception worthy meal of prime beef, chicken, or fish, let them dance, let them socialize, and in the name of all that's holy, keep your Quizzo game at home. Before or after your wedding, Invite two or three couples over for pizza and wine or beer, and play your trivia game. For the folks who thought they were going to an elegant affair with envelopes full of cash, let them eat, drink, and be merry. Forget Quizzos. It's a childish idea that is sure to throw a monkey wrench into an otherwise adult event.

OP- Im just saying... theres a reason "none of the caterers in your area" would do this as the whole wedding meal. Thats all. Thats because its a bad idea.

Oh my God. This reminds me of the wedding that I went to that served fried chicken from KFC. People still talk about it, but not in a good way.

I respect that fact that you have a vision you'd like to achieve, however, it's not your wedding we're talking about, it's your *reception* which is inherently a different circumstance and requires compromised consideration for your guests. Meaning you may need to compromise on your overall vision to consider your guest's comfort, tastes, and enjoyment. Right now it sounds like you're not doing that at all. You may be having a 'laid back" affair but the reason you're having trouble in trying to get fast or fried food to your venue and serve it so it's warm and tasty is because it can't be feasibly done in a pleasing manner.

If you're getting push back in this is because you and your FH are trying please yourself over the enjoyment of your guests. Key word OVER. As in above or entitled.

The fact that you've been to other weddings serving similar food which were 'fine' is telling. Who wants a 'fine' wedding. The synonym of 'nice'. Most brides want a fantastic or wonderful wedding that guests remember fondly. But why elevate that standard from mediocrity if you're happy with it?

    Fine indeed.

I gave up fried food and most fast food three years ago. I would honestly be screwed at your wedding. I also would not start eating soggy, warm, chicken nuggets and congealed gravy. I'd leave early and stop somewhere to eat on the way home.

Also, I'd like to politely mention the hell my stomach would be in from that much fried food and fatty choices. I'd be in the powder room often, either at your venue or leave early so I'm comfortable.

Hire a caterer and add a few more food options. I do often judge a wedding by the quality of food. Get Italian or BBQ if you are in a budget pinch. Both are affordable and crowd pleasing options.

Edited to add: salsa, chips, queso, nuggets, and trivia. Is this a wedding or a trip to my local Chilis? Get more apps passed than just chips and salsa!

Are there any restaurants nearer your venue so the wait time will be much less?

If you are really set on fast food chicken fingers, chick fil a caters! I know people aren't crazy about your meal choice, but at least chick-fil-a will deliver to you so the food has a better chance of being served properly and this option is very close to what you wanted originally.

Personally, I'd research other cheap casual options that will deliver to you: any pizza place, panda express, subway, etc. I think in-n-out even has a food truck! My personal favorite would have to be a chipotle bar!

    I refuse to eat Chick-Fil-A.

Do local delis near you cater? I'd rather fried and roasted chicken options from a deli or supermarket than fast food thats been sitting for an hour.
