Just Said Yes October 2024

Ghosted by my Wedding Planner, what do i do?

We found this girl who works alone as a wedding planner on three major wedding websites (weddingwire included) and she had photos and ratings and reviews and a well designed website and she was quick to respond. She said all the right things and her packages aligned with our budget and she seemed to understand not only our vision but also our financial situation.

We signed a contract and paid her a deposit (unfortunately we did this from our savings account rather than our credit card) and she started scheduling meetings from the get-go. We decided to keep our interactions virtual, with her doing the sourcing and research and narrowing our options down to what fit our budget, and me and SO doing the in person tours and interviews for our vendors and making final decisions.

Things were great for 2 or 3 months. Then she started getting busier and I noticed our last call she seemed kind of behind schedule on getting us responses back like she said she would. And then one day I look up and realize, hey its been 3 weeks with no followup from her on our last items? So I followup via text. No response for 4 days on that so I send a text checking in and saying I also sent an email. No response to that for a week and there's no read receipts. I go on her website and use the scheduling link to setup a phone call with her for the following Monday. I get the automated messages confirming it but nothing more. Day of that scheduled call the time comes and she's a no-show. I call and leave a voice mail as she didn't respond. I wait an hour after the scheduled call was officially missed and text her saying I hope things are OK but I'm very concerned.
It's been 4 or 5 days since that missed appt. from her and I have officially started spiraling. I messaged her instagram, I've gone over my contract, I've googled obits and arrest records - I've literally scoured the internet searching for her in case she's been unalived because it's the strangest thing ever! I have the weirdest feeling that something isn't right but I've never heard of this happening to anyone.
For clarification she's also not posted on any of her socials or her website since about the exact same time as her last communication with me, and it's officially been about a month and a half without a written response and over 2 months since the last phone call.
Has anyone been through this and what can be done???
Help!

Wedding vendors ghosting their clients seems to be happening more and more frequently! It’s really sad and disheartening that “professionals” do this during such an exciting/stressful/important event for couples. 2+ months is a very long time for no contact. At this point, I think it’s reasonable to cut ties with this person and start looking for a new planner (or maybe even take on the planning yourself, and just hire a day of coordinator). Unfortunately, that means you will likely not recoup the deposit you paid her. If it was a significant amount of money, you may want to contact a lawyer. So sorry this is happening to you! I hope the rest of your planning is less stressful.

I would start looking for a new wedding planner. Honestly this case seems pretty cut and dry since you have a contract. I would just file in small claims court myself. You can get a lawyer if you can afford it, but this case seems pretty easy to prove on your own. Take screenshots of every attempt you’ve made to contact her.
