Giant paper flower ceremony backdrop! How to hang it? suggestions please!

Jessica, on August 12, 2019 at 11:44 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 10
So, I fell in love with these giant paper flowers (thank you Pinterest). And decided this was what I wanted as our backdrop for the ceremony.

We're getting married on the front porch of an old historical home, outside standing in front of the front door. Instead of using an arch, I want to hang these around the door frame right behind where we will say our vows.

I need to attach the flowers and leaves to something so that the day of, all the decorator has to do is hang up one thing (the door "arch" of paper flowers).

I have no idea what to hang the flowers on? Cardboard? A large rope? Any other suggestions? The 1st 2 pics are my inspiration pictures. The last pics are just a few flowers I made to make sure this was even feasible.

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks!

Could you attach them to a piece of thin twine or fishing line and hang them as a curtain?

I was also going to suggest something like fishing line that is clear and maybe a heavy duty clear tape to tape the line with. How heavy are the flowers?

Personally, I would glue them together in small groups that look good (or keep them single if they're heavy) and then affix a ribbon or wire to the back that could be tied to a garland of greenery that could be hung on the door. That way if you don't have it perfect you can move them around until it looks just right.

The dark pink one is the largest and probably weighs 1 to 2lbs. I currently have them hanging by a loop ribbon i attached to the back but as you can see the back of the flowers wont lay flush against the wall, because of the weight. Im thinking i need to attch them to something like cardboard.

I think gluing them in small groups might be my best option. They won't lay flush against the wall if not, as you can see in the pics.

We had these at my Bridal’s shower! My bridesmaid used strong floral wire to hang them in foam boards and then floral wire and zip ties to hang them up.

Oh awesome! So they attached the flowers directly to the foam?

Yes! The flowers were built on cardboard so we strung the wire through the base of the flower, poked holes in the foam and then just twisted up the wire like a twist tie. Then you just cut away extra board so you can’t see it!

Can you share the link for the paper flowers? Also, you mention in another post that you purchased Ling flower knockoffs from ebay, do you have that link?
