Giant yard games for outdoor reception?

Dani, on April 7, 2017 at 3:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 38

Hi guys!

I'm having an outdoor BBQ reception that will be pretty casual. Someone gave me the idea of having giant jenga at my reception, which got me looking into other game ideas as well. I found a giant yahtzee game on Etsy, giant tic-tac-toe, and of course, corn hole.

Do you think any guests would even pay attention to these games? Do you have any yard game ideas? This reception will be mostly family and children, so I just want to make sure everyone has fun.

Is your air conditioned tent/shelter big enough to set up the games? I think it would be difficult to have a reception and have games going on in the same area and it will be too hot to set anything up outside.

I think it depends on the wedding.. I've been to two weddings with yard Games. One time they were so much fun and where everyone congregated the whole time and were so fun. The other I don't think they got touched by anyone except the kids...

I love corn hole you can do it with your monogram. If you have games people will play

Is one of those games beer pong? I'd be all over that, otherwise, just point me to the bar and the food.

We have a large family and friend base that loves outdoor yard games. We will be having the Yahtzee, tick tac toe, Jenga, corn hole, ladder golf, horseshoes, and maybe a volleyball net since we have so much room. I think it's a great idea, to get the family's mixed and hopefully talking and enjoying the day.

I'm with Katie. I'm leaning towards "no" bc most people will have fun with booze and a dance floor, but if you do have it, make sure it's in an air conditioned area

Since you have kids (especially toddlers) coming, giant Jenga will be a huge hit! I think cornhole is a safe bet if you want adults to be included.

I wouldn't be interested in games at a wedding. Be sure to have food, booze and dancing and youll be all set!

Also, every time I see "corn hole" I giggle. It means something very different up here...

I think it's a know-your-crowd thing. Weddings can be a little boring for kids, so I could see the kids having a lot of fun with that.

I think giant yard games sound awesome.

@JessieJV I love the idea of beer pong - I might have to steal that!

Giant jenga is a lot of fun!

@Lezley B. I also really like the idea of monogrammed corn hole.

My vote is yes on games - I think it just adds to the fun! ETA: spelling

I considered beer pong but it's usually such a mess - especially once people start getting drunk. I've seen tables flip and people spill beer all over themselves.

I think giant jenga looks so fun!

There's actually a space at my venue where the groom and GM get ready for playing beer pong. I know FH won't do it, but I think that's fucking awesome.

I agree @OliviaP. I haven't played beer pong in years but every time I did it was at some grungy college house party so that's all I can think of.

I think it's important to add that most of my family is LDS, so simply having booze doesn't work for everyone attending.

I've never seen anyone play lawn games but drunk groomsmen and small children.

@Celia I'm not really sure what you're getting at. There will be a lot of children and a handful of drunk groomsmen, so is that a yes? haha

OP you never answered my question. Will there be enough space inside the air conditioned shelter/tent to have these lawn games? You wouldn't want a Jenga block falling on your elderly grandparent.

Yes, Katie. There is plenty of room. I wouldn't have considered having games if I did not have room for them.
