Gift Registry Online Vs. In Store

April2012Bride, on February 1, 2012 at 12:17 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

Hi all. I was wondering which are you doing and for those who are already married which would you recommend...registering for gifts online or in the store.

I am going to register at Bed Bath and Beyond and Target. I was going to only do Target, but I haven't great things about it...so I figure two stores would be better. Thoughts? Online vs. in store? I know you can modify your registry online once you do it...but I am wondering about initial registry. Thanks!

I would do it in store first..one because it is fun.. and two because you can actually see, hold, touch the stuff... which I think makes decision making better/easier.. and then like you said you can go back and change or delete things

I started my registry online because it's more convenient. But there are some items that are best seen in person, like glassware and serving pieces. Or if your looking at towels and want a specific color, it's better to see it in person rather than trust the hues on the website.

You can do both, most stores have it set up so you can bounce between the store and the website. Your guests also have the option of shopping online or going into the store and checking the list there.

Okay, thanks ladies. I am mainly asking b/c my FH has been putting it off FOREVER going to the store and it's frustrating and I was trying to tell him we should actually GO to the store. I just wanted to make sure it made the most sense. Thanks again! I was right...as usual. lol

We're just doing the Amazon online regsitry. We don't need a lot of house type stuff so it lets us put a bunch of relatively oddd non-standard for registry items.... like photography equipment or exercise equipment. Smiley smile

When is your wedding? I just did mine in the past 2 weeks, and my wedding is in May. The only reason I forced us to go then was my family is having a shower for me when I am in TX next week.

Edit: duh I just read your name, your wedding is in April. As long as you register before the shower (if you're having one) you're good.

Go without him! FH doesn't even know what's on our registry… he gave up on that months ago. He wanted TV's but Crate and Barrel doesn't carry them…soo…. he lost interest.

My wedding is April 15th. I'm already getting questions about where we are registered...and I hate saying we haven't registered. I appreciate the thought so much (that people want to buy us gifts)...so I want to have something to tell them!

We had tons of fun registering in the store. But in fact we preferred Amazon.

    1. People really had gifts shipped to us :-)

    2. I am a review junkie, so even though it's better to see some things in person, I rely on reviews a lot.

    3. We returned some things, or got credit for them. For example, we wanted those nice ceramic containers for flour, sugar, etc. Well, 1 out of 4 came broken. Amazon just issued a refund and you don't need to return the rest. So we pooled some of that money to buy larger items that we didn't get, but still kept the original 3 containers. So that was a win-win ;-)

    4. Amazon just had a wider range of stuff to choose from, than any physical store.

I didn't even know Amazon had registry. Hmm, I need to look into this. Since we've been together for so long...we don't really NEED anything...but would prefer to register and get stuff that's our taste than not. Thanks again you all. You helped so much!!
