This is exactly what we are doing too!

We are calling it a honeyfund. In most cases, a lot of modern couples are already living together and have everything they need, at least that's how it is for my FH and me. So instead of asking for gifts and for things we already have, we are accepting money for a honeymoon (that's if they want to give us a gift at all!) For us, the presence of our loved ones truly is the present and there is no presssure. That's what I like about not having a registry.

I think it’s perfectly fine. We live in a small house right now so we don’t have room for a bunch of registry gifts and would rather save up for our next home. People are either going to buy you a gift or give you money in an envelope and you will do with it as you please, so what’s the difference between giving someone money in an envelope and money online? People judge what everyone does anyway so do what you think is best. We made a wedding/honeymoon fund and explicitly said that it’s not expected, but it’s for those family members, especially those far away that cannot come, to be able to give a monetary gift quickly and easily if they truly want to.

Totally agree that it’s fine! My partner and I already live together so we don’t need a ton of unnecessary gifts. I know our family would rather give us experiences that we can cherish together as a couple instead of buying us additional house stuff that we’ll never use. Zola is GREAT for suggesting ideas like honeymoon spa day or mountain biking rentals on our honeymoon, etc.
