Giving away

Ashley, on February 1, 2021 at 4:10 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 8
Hello there! My husband and I are renewing our wedding vows soon! My dad is a deadbeat and my stepdad is amazing!! However, I would like my girls (9 and 10) to "give me away" to my husband but I dont want it to feel like "giving away" how can I incorporate this into the ceremony? We never had a wedding we just went to the courthouse so the renewal is more like the wedding lol thanks guys!!

Just have them walk down the aisle with you! That's what most people do these days with escorts. Have one on each side.

I agree with Ashley. Your daughters can just walk down with you and then go to their intended spots when you all get to the altar. I've actually only been to 1 wedding in recent memory where they did the whole "who gives this woman away" thing.

I think it will be cute if your daughters walk side by side in front of you. I was in one wedding where their nieces did ballet in front of the bride and it’s so wow...

I walked my daughter down there aisle- there was no mention of giving her away. In my wedding, there will be no mention of my dad giving me away. Personally, that saying is really outdated & rarely (if at all) used. Having your daughters walk you down is beautiful! I just googled this & saw this. Giving away 1

In this day and age, no one gives anyone away. They're just a physical/emotional support to keep you calm as you walk down the aisle and and anyone can fill that role.

I would just have them escort your down the aisle.

Since you are already married, there isn’t really any “giving away”. You could have the officiant skip that part. Or change it to “who gives their blessing for this marriage”.

First of all, think of it as “walk you down the aisle”, not “give you away”. The concept of being given away is a bit outdated, but being walked down the aisle isn’t necessarily. Second, I think your girls should definitely do it! A friend of my sister’s and her husband renewed their vows about a year and a half ago. Their son, who was 13 at the time, walked his mom down the aisle. The pictures were beautiful!
